The journey begins with the desire to connect

Vietnam Airlines was established in 1956, formerly known as the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. Through the years of war and the difficult post-war period, the national airline has constantly innovated, upgraded its fleet, expanded its flight network, and gradually asserted itself in the regional and global aviation market.

During its formation and development, an important turning point came in 1995, when Vietnam Airlines officially became Vietnam Airlines Corporation under a modern model. Since then, the golden lotus symbol has been present at all large and small airports in and outside the country, associated with the image of the country and the Vietnamese people as gentle, friendly and integrated.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines owns more than 100 modern aircraft, operating 22 domestic and 31 international destinations, participating in the SkyTeam Airline Alliance with more than 1,150 global destinations. It is expected that in 2025, the airline will continue to open new and restore 15 international routes, bringing the image of Vietnam further on the world aviation map.

As one of the largest state-owned enterprises, Vietnam Airlines has made a positive contribution to the state budget, with nearly VND68,000 billion after 30 years of operation. The airline has always maintained a steady growth rate, overcoming turbulent periods such as the economic crisis or the Covid-19 pandemic, to continue to play a leading role in the Vietnamese aviation market.

In addition to business activities, Vietnam Airlines is also a cultural, tourism and investment bridge between Vietnam and international friends. Flights not only transport passengers but also carry national pride, contributing to promoting the country's image globally.

Digital Transformation - Reaching Out to the World - National Position

Not outside the world's development trend, from 2021 to now, Vietnam Airlines has been transforming strongly to become the leading "digital enterprise" in the region. According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, in 2023, the airline reached the "Digital Formation" level, demonstrating seriousness and a clear strategy in digital transformation.

Currently, 40% of Vietnam Airlines' revenue comes from online channels. The airline has successfully applied Cloud, AI, IoT and Big Data technologies to optimize operations and personalize passenger experiences. The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) in 2024 reached 4.21/5 for domestic flights and 4.06/5 for international flights - a clear demonstration of the airline's digital transformation efforts.

Not only is Vietnam Airlines a leading economic enterprise, it is also a model in sustainable development and environmental protection. The airline has implemented a series of solutions to reduce 62.8 million plastic bags each year, use lighter passenger service equipment, and switch to using electronic newspapers instead of paper newspapers, helping to save up to 2.3 million tons of fuel per year.

In particular, from January 1, 2025, Vietnam Airlines will become the first airline in Vietnam to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on flights from Europe. Along with operating modern aircraft and applying smart operating solutions, in 2024, the airline is estimated to have cut nearly 70,000 tons of CO 2 .

Not stopping there, Vietnam Airlines actively participates in many community programs such as "Fly lightly to Con Dao", "Contribute leaves to patch the forest", planting protective forests... demonstrating social responsibility and the green living message that the airline wants to spread.

In the spirit of “mutual love”, over the past 30 years, Vietnam Airlines has implemented many social security programs: contributing more than 55 billion VND to the Charity Fund, supporting 167 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, building hundreds of gratitude houses, and supporting 100 billion VND for poor districts. During the pandemic, the airline transported millions of vaccine doses, contributed nearly 2 billion VND to the Vaccine Fund and tens of billions of VND to support workers in difficulty.

Vietnam Airlines has become a bridge connecting passengers and partners in community activities: the program "Connecting love with Golden Lotus" has donated nearly 14 million flight miles, equivalent to 8.6 billion VND to conduct heart disease examinations and screening for 75,000 children and perform surgeries for thousands of Vietnamese children; the food donation campaign in cooperation with VietHarvest Food Rescue Organization has donated more than 48,000 dried products, worth nearly 1.2 billion VND to 1,800 people in difficult circumstances;...

With its tireless efforts, Vietnam Airlines has been continuously honored at prestigious international awards: 4-star airline (Skytrax), 5-star airline (APEX), "World's leading cultural airline" (World Travel Awards), top 5 most punctual airlines in Asia (Cirium), Top 25 safest airlines in the world in 2025 and top 11 leading airlines in the world (AirlineRatings)...

Vietnam Airlines’ Golden Lotus Program was also honored as the “Best Loyalty Program”. The “Golden Lotus” brand is currently in the Top 10 most valuable brands in Vietnam with a value of up to hundreds of millions of USD - a symbol of prestige, quality and national identity.

30 years of continuous innovation and development, Vietnam Airlines has been and will continue to grow, affirming its role as a national airline with a strong Vietnamese identity, aiming for sustainable development, innovation and global integration. Impressive figures, outstanding achievements and humane values are the luggage for Vietnam Airlines to continue its journey to conquer the sky in the coming decades.
