National airline with the mission of "taking off with the country"
From early May 2025, Vietnam Airlines will officially restore the direct flight route Hanoi - Moscow (Russia). Not only will it resume the key flight route of Vietnamese aviation, the restoration of this route will also facilitate trade, travel, and better connect to Central Asian countries such as Armenia and Uzbekistan. With a commitment to continuously expanding its operations, Vietnam Airlines is gradually affirming its pioneering role in connecting Vietnam with the world and bringing the country deeper and deeper into the global economy.
After a 3-year hiatus, the Hanoi-Moscow direct flight will be officially restored by Vietnam Airlines from May 8, 2025. The resumption of this route will not only strengthen Vietnam Airlines' position on international routes but also realize the strategy of expanding its flight network and improving the airline's operational efficiency. In the first phase, Vietnam Airlines will operate this route with a frequency of 2 flights/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft. From July 2026, it will increase to 3 flights/week to meet the increasing travel needs of passengers.

Russia has always been one of the key markets for Vietnam's tourism and trade. In 2024, the total number of visitors between the two countries will reach more than 220,000, an increase of more than 2.3 times compared to 2023, but still only 26% compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. The direct flight from Hanoi to Moscow will help strengthen connectivity and facilitate a strong recovery of the aviation and tourism industries of the two countries.
The resumption of flights not only provides passengers with more convenient and safe travel options with high-quality services, but also promotes bilateral cooperation between the two countries in many areas such as trade, investment and cultural exchange. This event also marks an important milestone in Vietnam Airlines' international flight network development strategy, especially on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Airlines Corporation.
It is expected that in 2025, Vietnam Airlines will open and restore 15 new international routes to important destinations such as Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates (UAE)... These are efforts to expand the country's "soft borders" as well as carry out the mission of "taking off with the country" that Vietnam Airlines has always strived for throughout its development journey.
More opportunities to reach potential markets
Opening a direct flight from Vietnam to Russia will also help connect better with countries in the Central Asian region such as Armenia and Uzbekistan. In recent times, relations between Vietnam and Armenia and Uzbekistan have developed well in all areas. High-level exchanges and contacts have been promoted.
For Armenia, bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Armenia has been strengthened. Armenia has had a number of direct investment projects in Vietnam. Vietnam also encourages businesses to invest in Armenia, especially in advantageous fields such as agriculture, food processing and textiles. The two governments have increased negotiations and signed cooperation documents, creating a legal framework for agencies, organizations, people and businesses to promote exchanges, explore markets and opportunities for cooperation, investment and exchange of goods.
Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with traditional friends, including Uzbekistan. In recent times, the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries have had positive developments with many contacts at all levels. Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to promote relations between Uzbekistan and ASEAN. Uzbekistan is ready to promote relations between Vietnam and Central Asian countries and countries in the region.
Currently, some famous tourist destinations in Vietnam have been directly connected to the Central Asian region through charter flights such as Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) and soon Da Nang. However, the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Central Asian countries such as Armenia and Uzbekistan is still very large, which is an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises and other countries to continue to promote cooperation. Maintaining contact and exchanging delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, between Vietnam and other countries helps to strengthen political trust, creating a basis for promoting cooperation in areas where both sides have strengths and potential such as trade, investment, tourism, transportation, education-training, science-technology, etc.
On the occasion of the opening of the new route, Vietnam Airlines has launched many attractive promotional programs, including preferential round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Moscow from only 16,419,000 VND (including taxes and fees). In addition, customers will receive a 50% discount on the first prepaid baggage fee and a 30% discount on pre-selected seats. Golden Lotus Plus members who purchase tickets and depart between May 8 and June 30, 2025 will receive 1,000 bonus miles and 1,000 qualifying miles/leg for economy class, 2,000 bonus miles and 2,000 qualifying miles/leg for business class. These programs apply to tickets issued between March 15 and May 31, 2025 and flights between May 8 and May 31, 2025.
