The Russian capital was targeted by a rare drone attack on the morning of May 30, causing “minor” damage to buildings and no casualties, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. (Moscow time = Hanoi time - 4)
“This morning, at dawn, a drone attack caused minor damage to several buildings. The city’s emergency services are at the scene. So far, no one has been seriously injured,” Sobyanin said.
Videos shared on Russian social media show air defense forces firing at UAVs in various areas of the capital Moscow and the Moscow Region.
An Emergency Services official told Russian news agency RIA that one UAV hit the upper floors of a residential building in the southwest of the city, and another UAV hit a 24-story apartment block, also in southwest Moscow.
Mr Sobyanin has ordered the evacuation of residents from two apartment blocks that were targeted.
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said on his Telegram channel that “several drones” were shot down by air defenses as they were flying toward the city.
While parts of Russia have faced increased attacks this month, the drone attack on the morning of May 30 may have been the most intense on the capital Moscow since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine 15 months ago.
Earlier, in the early morning of May 3, two UAVs also exploded right above the Kremlin - the residence and workplace of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia accused Ukraine of using these devices to try to assassinate Mr. Putin. Ukraine categorically denied any involvement in the attack .
