That is the opinion of General Director (CEO) Demis Hassabis from Artificial Intelligence Company DeepMind, a unit owned by Google.
Speaking at a press conference at DeepMind's London office on March 17, Mr. Hassabis said that artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems - developed with the ability to be as intelligent as or better than humans - will begin to appear in the next 5 to 10 years, CNBC reported.
Mr. Hassabis believes that there are still many tasks that current artificial intelligence (AI) systems cannot do, but in the next decade, everything will change and humans will move towards developing so-called general artificial intelligence.

Google DeepMind CEO admits there is still a way to go and a lot of research needed to build AGI, although he admits the system has many impressive points.
The main challenge in achieving general artificial intelligence, Hassabis said, is to develop current AI systems to the point where they can understand context from the real world. He said that while it is possible to develop AI systems that can analyze problems and complete tasks autonomously (for example, AI can complete tasks in games), applying such technology to the real world will take more time.
Several leading artificial intelligence companies have focused on developing AI models, with the expectation that AI will become more technically capable and capable of handling many tasks. In addition to Mr. Hassabis, Robin Li, CEO of Baidu Technology Company (China), also said last year that it will take more than 10 years to develop and launch AGI models.
However, some in the industry are optimistic that AGI will arrive sooner, including Dario Amodei, CEO of AI startup Anthropic. In January, Amodei said that a form of AI that is “better than most humans at most tasks” will emerge in the next two to three years.
Last year, billionaire Elon Musk predicted that AGI could be possible by 2026, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said such a system could be developed in the near future.
