In the past 24 hours, on Facebook, some personal accounts have posted a video and photos reporting a dike breach in Yen Lap district. This is fabricated and untrue information.
Some personal Facebook pages posted videos with captions: "The Yen Lap dike in Phu Tho broke, floodwaters raged and caused widespread flooding" (Dan Viet 24/7), "The Yen Lap dike near Phong Chau bridge broke, I posted a post asking the rapid response team to go help the people" (RAPID RESPONSE INFLATABLE BOAT TEAM), "The Yen Lap Phu Tho dike broke" (Dao Trinh Nuong)...
However, speaking with Phu Tho Newspaper reporter, Mr. Dinh Hai Nam - Vice Chairman of Yen Lap District People's Committee affirmed: These are false images and information. In Yen Lap district, there are no large rivers, so there are no dikes. The district only has small dams and sluices across streams. Storm No. 3 caused widespread heavy rain, the water level of rivers and streams in the district rose rapidly, but the leaders of Yen Lap District People's Committee inspected the damage and directed the recovery work as well as requested communes and towns to prepare adequate equipment, human resources, and materials, and have a standing force to ensure rescue when incidents occur according to the "4 on-site" motto. At key points across dams and sluices, there are forces to monitor and give early warning when flood waters rise rapidly to ensure people's safety.
Faced with the current flood situation, social media users need to be alert in receiving and selecting information. They should follow information from press agencies or official sources, and not spread unverified, inaccurate information that could cause public confusion.
