When mentioning Toni Morrison (1931-2019), Vietnamese literature lovers can "name" some of her works such as her debut work "Which Eyes Are the Bluest", the book "The Origin of the Alien Race" about racism, or the novel "Beloved" which helped her win the Pulitzer Prize in 1988 and become the first black American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993.

Wishing to introduce to Vietnamese readers outstanding works from around the world, including works by female writer Toni Morrison, the Writers Association Publishing House and San Ho books have jointly published the novel "Song of Solomon".
This work has impressed global readers with its profound humanistic themes, revolving around the journey of searching for identity and roots, the desire for freedom, and a strong message of self-discovery and overcoming fate.
“Song of Solomon” tells the story of Macon Dead III (Hàng Sữa), a black man born and raised in a middle-class family in Michigan. Despite having a life full of material things, Hàng Sữa always feels lost and stuck in the face of unreasonable privileges that hinder his maturity and the love he cannot understand, making him “want to run away from what he knows, run away from the implications in what he hears”, wanting to “open up his own path away from the past, which is also the present of his parents and is threatening to become his present”.
Then, Hang Sua decided to leave his hometown and embark on a journey to find treasure, from there gradually discovering the tragic story about his family, his origins, his origins, about his ego that he had been searching for answers for so long, and discovering legends and folk tales with strong cultural imprints.
Recreating the journey of identity discovery based on the tragic history and social issues in the African American community, the novel "Song of Solomon" emphasizes the value of roots for the maturity of each individual, deeply depicting the desire to "fly" - escape from the invisible constraints of the past that people must overcome to find themselves.
With its rich imagery, poetic style and full of symbolism, “The Song of Solomon” is not only the story of an individual, but also a symbol of an entire community’s journey to find identity.
