According to a statement from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit takes place within the framework of cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8). Ms. Elina Valtonen will meet her counterpart S Jaishankar at a working lunch with the Nordic and Baltic Ministers. The Ministers will discuss the current state of relations between the countries, opportunities for future cooperation and current international issues.
This year, Finland and India celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations (1974-2024). The purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations, highlight foreign policy and security issues of importance to Finland, and contribute to the debate on international foreign policy and security at the Raisina Dialogue – New Delhi’s most important foreign and security policy conference.
“India is steadily strengthening its position on the international stage. It is clear that India will play an important role in addressing many global challenges, such as defending the rules-based international system and combating climate change,” Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said.
According to the top Finnish diplomat, “the joint presence of the Nordic and Baltic countries at this year's Raisina Dialogue reinforces important messages for Finland in one of the world's most important growth centers.”
Organized annually by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the Raisina Dialogue brings together heads of state, government leaders, ministers, business, media and academia to discuss the global situation and explore opportunities for cooperation.
At this year's forum, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen will speak at a high-level panel discussion on cooperation in the Arctic and participate in a debate on security policy.
Guests attending the Raisina Dialogue will also meet host Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
