The launching ceremony took place in Ta Bhing commune, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province.

The 500kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project was approved by the Prime Minister in principle for importing electricity and the connection plan to the Monsoon wind power plant (Laos) in Official Dispatch No. 938/TTg-CN dated July 21, 2020 and Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2023 of the Prime Minister on approving the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII).

The 500kV Monsoon – Thanh My transmission line project (section in Vietnam) is built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a length of about 44.71 km, a 02-circuit line, connecting from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster (Laos) to the 500kV Thanh My transformer station.

The Prime Minister assigned EVN as the investor of the project. The Power Project Management Board 2 is the unit assigned by EVN to represent the investor to manage the project. The total investment of the project is more than 1,100 billion VND with the investment capital for project construction arranged from credit loans from the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) and counterpart capital from EVN.

When the 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line is completed and put into operation, it will be able to transmit a maximum capacity of up to about 2,500 MW, contributing to improving the operational capacity of the national power system through importing electricity from Laos. However, according to the power purchase agreement, when put into operation, the line will initially receive imported electricity from wind power sources from Laos with a capacity of 600 MW and an expected average annual electricity output of about 1.7 billion kWh.

The construction of the 500kV Monsoon – Thanh My transmission line project (section in Vietnam) has realized the bilateral commitment on cooperation between the Governments of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Lao PDR in the field of energy system development.
