On the morning of October 1, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Principal of Luong Minh Primary Boarding School (Minh Tien village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district) said that this school had 361 students who had to stay home from school due to floodwaters entering classrooms.
Teachers clean up mud after flash flood
"Last night (September 30), flash floods occurred and caused the school to be submerged quite deeply. The water has now receded, but mud is still surrounding the classrooms and schoolyard," said Mr. Thanh.
This school has 299/361 boarding students. Flash floods also damaged many school documents, books, and student belongings.
“This morning, the school called parents to come to school to take their children home. The school cannot cook for boarding students because the living conditions are not guaranteed, ” added the principal of Luong Minh Primary School for Ethnic Minorities.
The classroom was submerged in mud.
According to Mr. Thanh, the authorities, teachers and villagers are currently actively cleaning the school and classrooms to welcome students back soon. The school also requested local health units to disinfect the school and classrooms.
This morning, the Military Command of Tuong Duong district mobilized nearly 100 officers, soldiers and militiamen, along with local authorities and people, to overcome the consequences.
At around 11pm on September 30, a flash flood occurred in Dua and Minh Tien villages (Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, Nghe An).
Mr. Vy Dinh Phuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune, said: "It rained in the evening, and at 11pm, flash floods suddenly came down to the village. There have been no casualties yet, but many people's properties and houses were swept away."
According to Mr. Phuc, there are currently 4 inner villages, including Cham Puong, Minh Tien, Ban Dua and Minh Thanh of the commune that are completely isolated due to landslides, traffic jams at the beginning of Ban Dua and the road to Ky Son district (Nghe An) is also blocked at many points due to landslides.
