Informed that there was a free medical examination and medicine session for meritorious people in the area organized by Brigade 279 in coordination with the Military Medical Department, Engineering Corps, Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, Lien Minh village, Xich Tho commune (Nho Quan district) was excited and arrived very early. Mr. Thu was guided by doctors and nurses to perform the necessary tests one by one.
"It's been a long time since I went for a health check because my house is far from the District Health Center. Today, I was very happy to have the doctors come to my house to examine me. Luckily, my health is very stable. The doctor gave me enthusiastic advice so that I can have a moderate diet and lifestyle, suitable for my physical condition. This is a very meaningful activity that warms the hearts of wounded and sick soldiers like us, especially during these July days" - Mr. Thu was moved.
Not only activities to care for families of people with meritorious services on holidays and Tet, Mr. Thu said that in recent years, people with meritorious services have received great attention from the Party, the State, and the province. Mr. Thu is both a 61% disabled soldier and a 51% disabled soldier. Instead of only receiving the highest subsidy level as before, since the beginning of 2023, Mr. Thu has received both the disabled soldier and disabled soldier allowances at the same time in the spirit of Decree No. 131/2021/ND-CP, dated December 30, 2021 on detailed regulations and measures to implement the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution. With the total of these two regimes, Mr. Thu currently receives nearly 6 million VND/month.
With an increased income when he is old and his health is declining, Mr. Thu no longer has to worry about finances, so he is very secure. He is excited: In particular, recently, the Provincial People's Council has also passed a Resolution on the promulgation of a policy to support centralized health rehabilitation for people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs in the province. Accordingly, when people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs go to centralized health rehabilitation, in addition to the funding provided by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, our province will also provide support at the rate of 1 million VND/person/rehabilitation period. This policy once again affirms the very practical attention of the Party, the State, and the province for people with meritorious services to the revolution.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cong, Deputy Political Commissar of Brigade 279, Engineer Corps, said: Over the years, the unit has always paid attention to and implemented the work of "Repaying gratitude". Many outstanding activities such as: Building Gratitude Houses, taking care of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, giving gifts, taking care of the health of people with meritorious services in the stationed area, taking care of martyrs' cemeteries... have become regular and continuous activities, attracting the positive response of officers and soldiers in the entire unit.
On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, Brigade 279 coordinated to organize a program to examine and provide free medicine to over 100 people with meritorious services in Xich Tho commune. This activity not only contributed to health care for people with meritorious services but also educated and fostered revolutionary ideals and the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking" for officers and soldiers.
Since the beginning of July, Nho Quan Nursing Center for War Invalids has welcomed many agencies, units, organizations and individuals to visit, give gifts and express gratitude to war invalids and sick soldiers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Love Connection Club, shared: This year, I was able to return to the Center to visit the health and give gifts to the seriously wounded and sick soldiers. I am very happy that their health is stable, and they can remember and share with us many memories of a time of war. For me, gratitude and remembrance are not only specific actions through regimes, policies, gifts, visits, encouragement... but also a reminder to live a life worthy of the noble sacrifice of those who have fallen or donated a part of their blood and bones for the Fatherland.

Mr. Dao Thanh Hai, Director of Nho Quan War Invalids Nursing Center, said: Many organizations and individuals regularly carry out meaningful and touching tasks for wounded and sick soldiers. Typically, the Ninh Binh Hair and Skin Club, from the 1st to the 5th of every month, visits, cuts hair and organizes cultural programs to encourage the spirit of wounded and sick soldiers...
For the Center, many meaningful activities were also carried out on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day such as: Taking wounded and sick soldiers to visit old battlefields; visiting historical sites, visiting Uncle Ho's Mausoleum; coordinating to organize for the uncles to talk with students on trips to the source of some schools in and outside the province... Participating in these activities, the wounded and sick soldiers were very happy and moved. With the average age of the wounded and sick soldiers being quite high, and carrying wounds and illnesses, such meaningful trips are not easy to carry out many times.
Mr. Duong Viet Yen, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said: In recent years, in addition to managing and implementing preferential policies according to the State's regulations and the province's specific policies, our province has also done a good job of socializing the work of people with meritorious services. The "Repaying gratitude" movement has spread widely, thereby creating great resources to carry out typical activities such as: Caring for wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, martyrs' families, vocational training, job creation; welcoming seriously wounded soldiers to recuperate at home; building and repairing gratitude houses, giving savings books, gratitude household appliances; gratitude gardens, gratitude fish ponds...
Up to now, Ninh Binh province has no poor households with members who have contributed to the revolution. On the occasion of July 27 this year, along with gifts from the Central Government, our province also spent over 8 billion VND to visit and present gifts to wounded soldiers, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and families of people who have contributed to the revolution. In particular, every July, agencies, units, organizations, and individuals have joined hands to carry out many meaningful and practical activities such as: visiting and presenting gifts to people with meritorious services; organizing medical examinations, treatment consultations, and providing free medicine; presenting houses of gratitude... Those meaningful works are the sentiments and deep gratitude of today's generation to those who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
