Crown Prince Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah was installed as King of Kuwait as successor to the late King Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

According to Alarabiya , Crown Prince Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, 83, becomes the 17th emir of Kuwait and will have a year to name a new crown prince. He was deputy commander of the Kuwait National Guard from 2004 to 2020 and was named crown prince when Sheikh Nawaf took power.
Earlier the same day, Kuwaiti state television reported that the country's King Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah had passed away at the age of 86.
Kuwait's state television quoted a royal statement expressing grief over the death of King Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
King Nawaf was hospitalized in November due to a heart problem. He was later reported to be in stable condition.
Sheikh Nawaf was appointed crown prince in 2006 and succeeded the emir of Kuwait when Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah died in September 2020 at the age of 91. Sheikh Nawaf had to steer the Kuwaiti economy through a crisis caused by falling oil prices in 2020.
Kuwait is an oil-producing country in the Gulf and an ally of the United States.
