Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha said that Vietnam is one of the countries with a comprehensive legal and policy framework to promote gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region. After 17 years of implementing the Law on Gender Equality, Vietnam has achieved many achievements and has been recognized and highly appreciated by the international community. The legal system on gender equality is increasingly complete, synchronous, consistent with practice and international integration trends. The work of integrating gender equality issues in the development of legal documents is increasingly concerned. Awareness of gender equality among officials and people is increasingly changing positively. The relationship of cooperation, support and sharing between men and women in all areas of social life is increasingly connected and consolidated.
Vietnam's gender equality ranking in 2023 increased by 15 places compared to 2021, increased by 11 places compared to 2022 and ranked 72/146 countries. The proportion of female National Assembly deputies in the 2021-2026 term is 30.26%, an increase of 3.58% compared to the 2026-2021 term. The recorded figures are a driving force for Vietnam to continue implementing gender equality goals, contributing to achieving sustainable development goals by 2030.
Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha spoke at the conference.
However, the implementation of gender equality still faces some difficulties such as: gender prejudice still exists in society; the apparatus for gender equality work is still lacking; there are still shortcomings in the policy system, laws and policy implementation on gender equality work... These are the reasons leading to the existence of gender gaps, requiring practical solutions to ensure equal opportunities to participate, contribute and enjoy in all areas of social life.
The National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2021-2030 period has set the goal of "Continuing to narrow the gender gap, creating conditions and opportunities for women and men to participate and enjoy equality in all areas of social life, contributing to the sustainable development of the country". Recognizing the role and significance of gender mainstreaming in the development of legal documents and in socio-economic development strategies and plans, in 2024, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs organized 2 training courses on gender equality and for the advancement of women. In addition to the knowledge and skills imparted by experts, the training course was also an opportunity for delegates to exchange and share initiatives, good practices, difficulties and shortcomings in the implementation of gender equality and for the advancement of women in ministries, branches and localities.
Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee H'Yim Kđoh spoke at the conference.
At the conference, delegates were presented with the following contents by leaders of the Gender Equality Department and experts: Overview of the results of implementing gender equality and women's advancement work in 2023; some new issues on gender equality; ensuring the integration of gender equality issues in the development of legal documents, strategies and plans.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee H'Yim Kđoh said that in recent times, Dak Lak province has focused on implementing gender equality work. The Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee have issued many programs and plans to direct the synchronous implementation of policies on gender equality work and for the advancement of women. Thereby, the rate of female workers receiving salaries is 29%. The rate of female directors/owners of enterprises and cooperatives is 27%; over 90% of women have access to health services. The work of planning, training, fostering, and arranging the use of female civil servants and public employees has been given attention and focus.
However, the province's gender equality work still has shortcomings and limitations such as: women's qualifications, professional and occupational capacity are still limited compared to men; many women are unemployed, have low income... Therefore, Dak Lak province hopes that the training conference will help officials working on gender equality have more opportunities to study, exchange and share experiences in their work...
