On May 30, a representative of a business belonging to Aeon Group (Japan) visited and evaluated the lychee growing area for export in Thanh Ha district (Hai Duong province) and said that according to the plan, the output of fresh lychee from Hai Duong that this business imported this year will increase compared to the 2023 lychee crop.

The survey team from Aeon Global Merchandising Company, a member of Aeon Group, visited the lychee garden of Production Group No. 10, Thanh Son Cooperative, directly picked ripe lychees and enjoyed them. The guests also talked with farmers who were harvesting lychees, learned about the care process, and grasped the yield and harvest season of this year's lychees.

Aeon Group has imported Thanh Ha lychees for 5 years. Mr. Naoki Matsuda, a specialist in charge of purchasing fresh agricultural products of Aeon Global Merchandising Company under Aeon Group, said: "This is the second time we have visited Thanh Ha lychee growing area. The lychees are very delicious. We are very satisfied with the quality of the lychees and satisfied because the growing and care process is carried out in accordance with Global GAP standards."

According to Mr. Naoki Matsuda, recently, Japanese consumers who have eaten Hai Duong lychees sold at the Aeon supermarket system all rated Thanh Ha, Hai Duong lychees as very delicious. However, there are still some Japanese people who do not know about this product. Therefore, through the Aeon supermarket system, the company not only sells products but also organizes promotional activities to help Japanese people know more about lychees.

In 2024, this enterprise plans to bring about 30 tons of Vietnamese lychee to Japan, an increase of 120% compared to 2023. "Although this is not a large number, the enterprise plans to increase the output of lychee imported into the Japanese market through the Aeon system in the coming years," Mr. Naoki Matsuda believes.

To increase lychee output in the Japanese market, business representatives hope that producers strictly comply with Global GAP standards, strictly control pesticide residue requirements; agencies and departments research and improve lychee varieties to be more diverse, and can crossbreed and test lychee varieties that are more resistant to harsh weather or have small seeds, no seeds, etc.

Pleased with the positive feedback from the Japanese market, Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Ha, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Thanh Ha District People's Committee, said that Thanh Ha District will direct the process of planting and caring for lychees so that the raw material areas serving export ensure the best quality, meeting well the plans to increase lychee import output from Aeon enterprises in the following years.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong, this year, although lychee output decreased by about 20,000 tons compared to last year, farmers have not neglected their care.

Ms. Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong, said that all areas of litchi flowering over 50% are directed to focus on production according to VietGAP and Global GAP standards to meet import criteria in high-end markets. Because farmers focus on care, the quality and appearance of litchi are now beautiful. Up to this point, all areas of cultivation for export have been controlled to meet the standards for purchasing and exporting to "difficult" markets.

In addition, the successful export of lychees to many markets has motivated lychee growers to get used to the idea of growing lychees according to export standards. Ms. Kiem cited: “Like the lychee garden in Production Group No. 10, in the past, people did not pay much attention to lychee trees, but recently, thanks to the support of the State, lychee production for export has been successful, so now people are focusing on investing a lot. Lychees are being purchased by businesses for export to Japan, the US, Australia, and Europe. Hopefully next year the weather will be more favorable, lychee productivity will be higher, and maintaining quality will be important to increase lychee export output.”

According to Red Dragon Production, Trade and Service Company Limited, a unit that has purchased and exported Hai Duong lychees for many years, although the lychee crop has been poor compared to previous years, the output from the lychee gardens that the company has been cooperating with is still guaranteed to supply for export. Since the beginning of the season, the company has exported about 50 tons of lychees to markets in Europe, Australia, the US and Canada.

Mr. Mai Xuan Thin, Director of Red Dragon Production, Trade and Service Company Limited, said that this year, the main crop of lychee exported to the Middle East is expected to decrease, but the U Hong lychee exported to the Australian, US and Japanese markets will still maintain its growth rate. In particular, the lychee output purchased, packaged and exported by the enterprise to the Japanese market is estimated to increase by 30 - 40%. Currently, the enterprise has prepared all conditions for preliminary processing and packaging facilities to ensure the growth of orders from Japanese partners.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong, due to the impact of unfavorable weather, the province's lychee output in 2024 is estimated at 40,000 - 45,000 tons, of which early lychee alone is estimated at 30,000 tons. The main crop of lychee (lychee) is expected to start harvesting from June 10 to the end of June. The entire Hai Duong province currently has 198 growing area codes eligible for export, of which Thanh Ha district alone has 167 growing area codes.

Thanh Ha litchi has been exported to countries and territories such as China, Japan, France, USA, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan (China), Belgium, Netherlands, Thailand, Singapore and the Middle East...
