Strengthening links for sustainable agricultural development

With the guidance and encouragement of authorities at all levels, in recent times, many agricultural development linkage models in Quang Ninh province have been formed and brought high economic efficiency to both producers as well as enterprises and cooperatives. From there, it is possible to limit small-scale production, while contributing to increasing production scale, creating quality products .

The Dam Ha chicken farming linkage model helps increase income for participating households.

With the support and encouragement of the locality, since 2018, Ms. Nguyen Thi Muot's family in Tan Hoa village, Quang Tan commune, Dam Ha district, has participated in the Dam Ha chicken farming linkage model with Tuyen Hien Agricultural Production and Business Cooperative. Part of the garden land was converted to invest in building 3 commercial chicken farms. Thanks to the hard work and support in breeds and farming techniques from the Cooperative, the chickens are healthy, develop well, and earn an income of over 300 million VND/year. Ms. Nguyen Thi Muot shared: A part of the commercial chickens when sold are also purchased by the Cooperative at market prices, so the family is also assured to raise them, maintaining the number of 1,500 chickens per farm. Each year, the market is supplied with 4,500-5,000 commercial chickens.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Director of Tuyen Hien Agricultural Production and Business Cooperative, Dam Ha District, said: Currently, the cooperative's Dam Ha chicken farming linkage model has attracted 50 households to participate. When participating in the model, in addition to being supported with breeds, local households are also updated with knowledge, farming techniques, barn construction, vaccines, and veterinary medicine. Since then, people have gradually changed their mindset, switching from small-scale, free-range farming to large-scale semi-confinement, ensuring that the chickens are free of diseases and food safety. Currently, households raising chickens following the linkage model with Tuyen Hien Cooperative have all brought high economic efficiency. The total output supplied to the market is nearly 100,000 commercial chickens/year.

The passion fruit growing linkage model of Truong Giang Agricultural Cooperative opens up a new way to get rich for people in Dam Ha district.

Agricultural production according to the linked value chain is a sustainable direction to help improve production efficiency and income for farmers and businesses. Implemented since the end of 2023, the passion fruit growing linkage model at Truong Giang General Agricultural Cooperative in Trai Dinh village, Dam Ha commune has also brought positive results. According to this linkage model, the Cooperative has received 70% support from the District Agricultural Technical Service Center for seeds and fertilizers; Saigon - Gia Lai Joint Stock Company will consume and purchase output products.

According to the model, the entire area of over 3 hectares of passion fruit cultivation of the cooperative is carried out using organic growing processes, ensuring strict requirements on fruit quality as well as food safety. The first harvest yielded 60 tons, earning 800 million VND. It is estimated that, after deducting expenses, each hectare of passion fruit from the second year onwards will generate an income of about 200 million VND/year. Mr. Dang Van Giang, Director of the cooperative, shared: From the initial success of the model, Truong Giang Agricultural Cooperative has now linked up with local households to continue expanding the area of passion fruit cultivation for export.

In recent times, localities in Quang Ninh province have always paid attention to and encouraged farmers to participate in linkage and cooperation models; prioritized attracting enterprises to invest in agricultural development according to value chains with production linkages and product consumption; focused on developing raw material areas with local strengths. Since then, many farming households have proactively and actively participated and established cooperatives and cooperative groups, aiming to link up to build concentrated raw material areas, apply advanced technology in production to improve productivity and quality of agricultural products.

Through production linkages, economic models have maximized their advantages. Farmers are more aware of the role of the collective economy, being more proactive and creative in production, contributing to increasing output, quality of agricultural products and raising income. The effectiveness of linkages and cooperation between cooperatives, enterprises and people has made important contributions to the local new rural construction program. By the end of 2022, Quang Ninh has completed the tasks of the entire 2021-2025 period in the National Target Program on New Rural Construction.

In the coming time, Quang Ninh will continue to implement many solutions to strongly promote linkages in production and improve the quality of agricultural products. Therein, it will focus on reforming administrative procedures, creating an open investment environment, as well as supporting mechanisms and policies to attract businesses to invest in agriculture, prioritizing businesses with potential and high technology to implement effective and sustainable linkages; continue to strengthen propaganda so that people clearly understand the benefits of linkages; promptly inform the supply and demand situation of agricultural products for farmers to produce effectively.
