Strengthening tourism cooperation between ASEAN and Da Nang

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh and Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin co-chaired the event. The event was attended by leaders of ministries, departments, agencies, senior officials from 10 ASEAN countries and partners.

Expanding flight connections

Ms. Milena Maria da Costa Rangel, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of East Timor, assessed that Da Nang has recently become known as a tourist destination, the top choice of many tourists from East Timor.

Da Nang is considered a model of tourism development with many good initiatives and is a dynamic city, therefore, East Timor wants to connect to learn and develop Da Nang's practices, and believes that the two sides will cooperate more closely in the fields of tourism and services.

Meanwhile, Mr. Soe Ko Ko, Myanmar's Charge d'Affaires in Vietnam, said that on April 2, Myanmar Airways International opened a flight route from Yangon (Myanmar) to Da Nang.

This is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Da Nang and localities and partners of Myanmar in the coming time, especially in the field of tourism.

Similarly, Mr. Meynardo LB. Montealegre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Vietnam, said that Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular have become familiar destinations for Filipino tourists. In particular, at the end of 2023, Cebu Pacific Air has put into regular operation the Manila (Philippines) - Da Nang route with a frequency of 3 flights/week.

The Philippines wants to increase the frequency of flights to promote tourism between the two countries. It can be said that Da Nang is the leading destination for festivals with a series of events held recently such as the International Fireworks Festival, the Asian Film Festival - Da Nang, the Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival... attracting a large number of tourists to the city.

Besides, the Philippines and Da Nang have had many cultural and educational exchange activities between the two sides in recent times, further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

Da Nang City Tourism Association signed a cooperation agreement with the Philippines on promoting tourism cooperation between the two parties.

Strengthening promotion and market linkage activities

According to Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung, the ASEAN region has always been one of the leading markets bringing tourists to Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular. In 2024, the ASEAN region will be the market with the second highest number of visitors to the city.

From that reality, the Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association stated that Da Nang has great potential for cooperation with ASEAN countries in developing diverse tourism products. To achieve that, the city must strengthen promotional activities and connect with markets to promote the development of city tourism.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism, said that in addition to national tourism linkage activities, the city has recently implemented many promotion and linkage activities in this market through signing tourism cooperation agreements with 5 localities in the ASEAN region and between Da Nang - Hue - Quang Nam and the Malaysia - Vietnam Friendship Association.

Da Nang also plays an important role in connecting and attracting tourists to the ASEAN region with its position as a gateway for air, sea and road routes, and as the end point of the East-West Economic Corridor connecting countries in the region.

In the coming time, Da Nang tourism industry will focus on the following solutions: Implementing policies of connection and cooperation between Da Nang and ASEAN countries; developing new and attractive tourism products; enhancing cooperation in promoting and advertising tourism and exchanging tourist sources; cooperating in training human resources to meet international standards.

On this occasion, the Da Nang Tourism Association organized a memorandum of understanding with the Tourism Associations of Malaysia and the Philippines to implement tourism promotion support between the parties.
