Previously, on June 4, a group of 45 people from Linh Nam ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi city traveled to Quan Lan, Van Don district. At about 4:15 p.m. on June 5, four women in the group, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Sinh (born in 1962), Vu Thi Nga (born in 1962), Tran Thi Hao (born in 1957) and Tong Thi Linh (born in 1949), all from group 16, Linh Nam ward, went to Dau Nui beach, Quan Lan commune to swim.
Due to rough seas, big waves, and old age, some people did not know how to swim. When swimming in the sea, they were pushed out into the deep area by the waves. 4 people drowned and were rescued by some young people at the beach and given first aid.
Upon receiving the news, the People's Committee of Quan Lan commune and functional forces promptly arrived and took the victims to a medical facility for emergency treatment.
Among them, Ms. Tran Thi Hao and Tong Thi Linh are being monitored at Quan Lan Regional General Clinic and are currently in stable health. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim was taken to Van Don District Medical Center and then transferred to the Provincial Hospital for emergency care. When brought ashore, Ms. Vu Thi Nga died.
Quan Lan Commune People's Committee, together with the Commune Health Station and Quan Lan General Clinic, provided vehicles and first aid to the tourists; contacted the victims' families to inform them of the situation. Along with visiting Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Sinh, who was being treated at the Provincial Hospital, local authorities supported Ms. Vu Thi Nga's family with 5 million VND to hire a vehicle to take the victim's body home.
It is known that Quan Lan beach area has many deep spots and big waves, there have been warnings of danger. Restaurants have signed a commitment to remind tourists not to swim when it is unsafe. However, the unfortunate incident still happened.
