On December 22, 1944, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army was established in Nguyen Binh district (Cao Bang province), under the command of comrade Vo Nguyen Giap. This was the first main unit of the revolutionary armed forces and the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA).
