After winning against Chan Chung Yin of Hong Kong (China) and Moghis Wki (Saudi Arabia), martial artist Tran Ho Duy of the Vietnamese taekwondo team advanced to the semi-finals of the men's individual boxing event at the 19th ASIAD to meet Kang Wanjin (Korea).
The 2001-born athlete is certain to win at least a bronze medal. However, he is still expected to create a surprise, thereby changing the medal color at this year's Games.
However, as expected, the Vietnamese boxer did not create much of an advantage over his Korean opponent.
Kang Wanjin played better and won with a score of 7.410-7.120 against Tran Ho Duy.
Thus, Tran Ho Duy officially brought home the bronze medal for the Vietnamese taekwondo team.
It is worth mentioning that this is the first time the 2001-born boxer has participated in an ASIAD. Therefore, this achievement is a worthy recognition for Ho Duy's efforts and training.
Meanwhile, in the women's individual boxing event, Vietnamese boxer Nguyen Thi Kim Ha stopped in the quarterfinals. She won 7.820 points, losing 0.010 points to her opponent Cha Yeaeun (South Korea).
Thus, the Vietnamese taekwondo team ended the first day of competition with 1 bronze medal.
Up to now, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won 2 bronze medals. Previously, rowing had "opened the race" with a bronze medal in the women's four-scull category, heavyweight 1 oar, won by Dinh Thi Hao, Ha Thi Vui, Pham Thi Hue and Du Thi Bong.
