Child abuse coach case damages reputation and spirit of taekwondo

'Child abuse at taekwondo club is a sad lesson'

The General Secretary of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation wrote: "We always remember that the responsibility of a social organization lies not only in professional development but also in maintaining the ethics and core values of the community.

This is similar to the statement of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong at the 11th Central Conference of the 12th tenure on October 12, 2019: "It is painful, but we cannot help but do it, there is no other way! All is for the common cause of the Party, of the country, of the people."

The recent incident involving "child abuse" at Seung Ri Club, Da Nang is a sad but unavoidable lesson. The Federation's Inspection Board coordinated with the Da Nang Taekwondo Federation to verify, and concluded that both Seung Ri Club and the related coach had seriously violated the professional management regulations of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation - VTF. This incident is damaging to the reputation and spirit of taekwondo that VTF and its teachers always strive for.

The Federation understands that each incident has hidden aspects of personal pressure, ignorance, or other objective factors. Looking back at society, there are similar cases: kindergarten teachers are suspended, even imprisoned for child abuse, or taxi drivers are investigated for violent behavior when competing for customers or participating in traffic. In some ways, they are pitiful people when facing pressure and circumstances, but the law and social rules do not allow these behaviors to exist.

With the spirit of respecting the law and the determination to build a civilized taekwondo community, all violations must be handled strictly, in a humane but uncompromising spirit. We do this not only for discipline but also for the healthy and sustainable development of Vietnamese taekwondo.

Thank you and call for solidarity from all members of the taekwondo community to work together towards a safe, disciplined and humane training environment.

Conclusion of the case of the taekwondo coach accused of beating a student: Serious violation of professional ethics

Coach still has a chance to fix mistakes

Returning to the story of Taekwondo Coach Nguyen Van Kin, we cannot deny that he is a young, enthusiastic, dedicated and highly responsible coach. Over the years, Coach Kin has made continuous efforts and contributions with creativity and abundant energy, contributing significantly to improving the quality of the Taekwondo movement in Vietnam. His contributions have left a positive impression on many students and colleagues.

However, the recent incident is a great and profound lesson not only for Coach Kin but also for all of us. Mistakes in the training process are something no one wants, but we need to look at it fairly: every mistake is an opportunity to learn, overcome and grow. More importantly, it is an opportunity for Coach Kin to adjust his methods, correct his shortcomings and continue to pursue his passion and mission in training.

We believe that with a progressive spirit and strong will, Coach Kin will overcome the current difficulties, learn valuable lessons to continue contributing to the development of the Taekwondo movement. At the same time, we call for support, companionship and encouragement from the community so that Coach Kin can come back stronger, bringing even greater value to this beloved martial art.

Remember, the journey of development always has challenges, and stumbling is sometimes a stepping stone to reach new successes. We have full confidence in Coach Kin's ability and enthusiasm in the upcoming journey."

As Thanh Nien reported, previously, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation received a complaint from Mr. NTH (parent of student NTNM, 13 years old) about his son being beaten by a coach while practicing at the Seung Ri Taekwondo Club (Ho Nguyen Trung, Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, Da Nang City) with Mr. Nguyen Van Kin as head coach and director.

According to the complaint, on the evening of January 9, when he picked up his son and discovered signs of being beaten, Mr. NTH used his phone to take pictures of all the marks on his son's body, and reported to the Da Nang City hotline about the serious violation of the child's body. At the same time, Mr. NTH took his son to the Khue Trung Ward police station for questioning.

Khue Trung Ward Police instructed Mr. NTH to take his child to the hospital to check for injuries. After the examination, Mr. NTH took his child back to Khue Trung Ward Police to get a detailed statement from NTNM. In addition, this parent also provided the phone number of Coach Nguyen Van Kin as requested by the police. The police invited Coach Nguyen Van Kin to work on the evening of January 9, and then continued to take statements on January 13.

On January 14, representatives of the VTF Inspection Board and the Da Nang Taekwondo Federation visited Mr. NTH's house to visit and encourage NTNM as well as clarify the matter. On January 15, representatives of the VTF Inspection Board made an official report to the Head of the VTF Inspection Board.
