Since Coach Troussier took the hot seat, the performance of the Vietnamese team has not been really good. This comes from many reasons. One of them is that many stars are often injured, causing the Vietnamese team to not have the strongest force.
In the new year of Giap Thin, the Vietnam team will welcome the return of many high-class players. These faces promise to help Mr. Troussier's team become stronger, to move towards important goals.
Doan Van Hau
Doan Van Hau has suffered a heel injury since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season. Therefore, up to now, the defender from Thai Binh has not played any match for the police team. At the Vietnam national team level under coach Troussier, the player born in 1999 only had time to play in the first two friendly matches (against Hong Kong and Syria respectively) in the training session in June 2023. After that, he was absent from all remaining friendly matches of the Vietnam national team, until the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia and the 2023 Asian Cup finals.
At the moment, Doan Van Hau's injury is progressing well. He will most likely return to play for the Hanoi Police Club in the second phase of the V-League. In addition, the 25-year-old defender also hopes to be back in time when the Vietnamese team plays two important matches against Indonesia, within the framework of the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia at the end of March 2024.
In recent times, the absence of Doan Van Hau has been a big loss for the Vietnamese team. The star born in 1999 has been considered the number 1 left-back in Vietnam in recent years. His injury has left a big gap in terms of expertise in the national team. Doan Van Hau can play well in the left-back and left-sided center-back positions. In the current Vietnamese team, Phan Tuan Tai has not shown confidence in holding the center-back position. Winger Vo Minh Trong, although potential, is still inexperienced and not really stable.
Phan Van Duc
Phan Van Duc suffered a torn ligament injury in April 2023. He then had to go to Singapore for surgery. And before the Lunar New Year holiday, the striker from Nghe An had recovered 90%. “In phase 2, I may return to compete with the team. My goal is to try to practice, to return to compete with the Hanoi Police Club. I will try to regain my form,” said Van Duc.
Phan Van Duc's recovery from injury is good news for the Hanoi Police Club. The police team will have more experience to realize its goal of regaining its position. The return of the former SLNA star is also a good sign for the Vietnam national team. If he plays well in the V-League, he is fully hopeful that Coach Troussier will give him a chance. A Phan Van Duc in high form will be a quality option for the "white wizard" for the attack.
Van Duc is an important factor in the Vietnam national team under coach Park Hang-seo. However, due to injury, he has not played a single match for the national team since coach Philippe Troussier took over.
Que Ngoc Hai and Nguyen Tien Linh
Whether under former coach Park Hang-seo or now coach Troussier, Que Ngoc Hai is still an irreplaceable link in the defense of the Vietnamese team. The central defender from Nghe An has all the qualities, from class, courage, experience... But in the second half of 2023, Ngoc Hai's playing process was also interrupted by injuries. Therefore, he could not play much for the Vietnamese team.
Que Ngoc Hai only played 1 match (against the Philippines) after the first 2 matches in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup and was completely absent from the 2023 Asian Cup Finals. Without the leadership of the star player currently playing for Binh Duong Club, the defense of the Vietnamese team became clearly fragile, when young central defenders who are often the main players such as Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Binh or Phan Tuan Tai still lack experience and competitive spirit.
Que Ngoc Hai (3) and Nguyen Tien Linh (22) are expected to make a strong comeback in the new year of Giap Thin.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Tien Linh also had a difficult 2023. Minor injuries prevented him from reaching his peak performance. In the Vietnam national team, the striker born in 1997 only played 4 out of 12 matches and did not leave any mark. He also suffered injuries and could not participate in the 2023 Asian Cup.
In the new year of Giap Thin, Que Ngoc Hai and Nguyen Tien Linh are expected to return strongly to help the Vietnamese team achieve good results.
