Que Ngoc Hai idolizes Ramos, but FIFA compares him to... Pepe
On the afternoon of March 3, the social networking site FIFA posted photos comparing interesting similarities between central defender Que Ngoc Hai (currently playing for Binh Duong Club) and central defender Pepe, who retired at the age of 41 after illustrious years at FC Porto and Real Madrid.
FIFA has suggested similarities between Que Ngoc Hai and Pepe, such as appearance, the way of scoring with outstretched arms, passing style, or the intensity in controversial situations on the field.

Both wore the number 3 shirt, played as central defenders, and had a brave and tough playing style when they were young, then gradually switched to a more intelligent style of play, relying more on sober judgment. Interestingly, Que Ngoc Hai's idol is Sergio Ramos, Pepe's close teammate at Real Madrid.
Que Ngoc Hai is one of the best central defenders that Vietnamese football has ever produced, with rich experience spanning from club to national team.
During more than 10 years wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, Que Ngoc Hai was the team captain in the 2019 - 2021 period, won the 2018 AFF Cup, reached the quarter-finals of the 2019 Asian Cup, the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, and won the bronze medal at the 2015 SEA Games. In the club jersey, Ngoc Hai won the 2020 V-League championship in the shirt of The Cong Viettel Club.
Ngoc Hai is currently playing for Binh Duong Club. At the AFF Cup 2024, the 32-year-old central defender was not selected by coach Kim Sang-sik due to not meeting the physical criteria. Ngoc Hai also had a difficult early season when he was not used regularly by coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
However, the former SLNA midfielder has regained his position. He has played 13 matches in the V-League this season, and just helped Binh Duong beat Binh Dinh 1-0 to return to the top 5.
Meanwhile, Pepe is a legendary central defender of the Portuguese national team with 141 matches. Pepe's peak was the EURO 2016 championship (Portugal beat France 1-0 in the final), where the player wearing the number 3 shirt played an important role, helping the home team quench their thirst for titles in the European Cup.
Pepe also spent 10 years at Real Madrid, winning 3 Champions League titles, 3 La Liga titles and 2 Spanish Cups. He moved to Besiktas in 2017, then returned to Portugal in 2018 for the final years of his career to contribute to FC Porto. Pepe retired at the age of 41 with a huge collection of titles.
