The truth is that Australian tangerines are flooding the market at super cheap prices.

According to Tien Phong reporter, Australian tangerines have flooded markets in Ho Chi Minh City for nearly a month, priced at only 30,000-50,000 VND/kg.

The vendors all confirmed that these were Australian tangerines grown in Vietnam. This item is cheap because it is in season.

However, according to the latest price list from Thu Duc agricultural wholesale market (HCMC), Australian tangerines are currently not on the list of fruits at the market.

A representative of the Thu Duc Agricultural Wholesale Market Management Board confirmed: “Currently, Australian tangerines are not available because they are imported seasonally. There are orange Chinese tangerines on the market, which sellers often call Australian tangerines for ease of sale. In fact, they are Australian tangerines originating from China. This type is in season and if it is officially imported with full quarantine records, it still ensures food safety.”

Chili growers in Dien Phong commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) are saddened by the record drop in chili prices, which has resulted in little profit.

Sweet potato season, price drops to 3,500 VND/kg

Many sweet potato growing areas in the Central Highlands are entering the harvest season with a gloomy atmosphere as purchase prices continue to plummet while traders buy sparingly.

In Gia Lai, according to Tuoi Tre , the purchase price of Japanese yellow sweet potatoes at the beginning of the season was 10,000 VND/kg, but now it is only 3,500 VND/kg, so farmers have to reluctantly sell the potatoes below cost. Faced with the situation of falling sweet potato prices while the unharvested output is still too large, the government has had to call for "rescue".

The reason for the sharp drop in sweet potato prices is that the consumption market is not stable, China has reduced its purchases. Meanwhile, the planting area in the whole region has increased, leading to difficulties in output.
