(BDO) Lacquer products with OCOP “stars” are not only a new business opportunity but also open up a new direction for the product, contributing to increasing the quality and high value of Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer craft. In particular, Dinh Hoa Lacquer Company Limited (Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, Thu Dau Mot City) has 20 lacquer products such as vases, plates, boxes, trays, paintings... that have just been recognized by Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee as meeting 3-star OCOP standards.
"Support" from the OCOP program
The focus of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program is to develop advantageous agricultural, non-agricultural, and service products in each locality according to the value chain, with private and collective economic sectors playing the main role, implementing in the direction of developing internal strength and increasing value.
Dinh Hoa lacquer products meet the needs of consumers and affirm the brand not only thanks to reputation and quality but also because of the mark of skillful hands and creativity of talented craftsmen.
Binh Duong's advantage when implementing the OCOP program is that most of the key products have been promoted by localities to register potential products to participate in the OCOP Program.
The effective implementation of the OCOP program is an inevitable direction, contributing to promoting the shift in rural labor structure, utilizing human resources, protecting the environment and preserving and developing the socio-economic situation of rural areas of the province in a sustainable manner.
In order for OCOP products to have a stable consumer market, the locality, businesses, production and trading units, and local people have been actively coordinating to build product brands, creating new opportunities to develop OCOP products.
To date, the province has had 219 OCOP products achieving 3-star to 4-star ratings; of which, there are 12 4-star products and 207 3-star products of enterprises, cooperatives, farms, cooperative groups and production establishments/business households. |
Tuong Binh Hiep Lacquer Village, Thu Dau Mot City has long been famous. In the 80s and 90s of the last century, lacquer paintings and handicrafts from this village were exported to many countries such as the US, EU, Japan, Korea, etc.
In the past 20 years, the export of products from Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer village has slowed down. If in 2001 the village had 1,840 households participating in production, with 3,860 workers, now there are only about 90 establishments.
In order to preserve and promote the traditional value of lacquer craft in Tuong Binh Hiep, in 2020, the Provincial People's Committee approved the project "Preserving and developing Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer craft village in combination with tourism in Thu Dau Mot City" and assigned the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City to implement it.
The project aims to build a comprehensive craft village, plan and build a concentrated production area for lacquer enterprises to ensure environmental issues, build a common product display area for the craft village; at the same time, combine building sightseeing tours, introducing the products of the craft village to domestic and foreign tourists; create conditions for artisans and skilled workers to pass on their profession and teach the profession to the younger generation.
Up to now, the project has approved the 1/500 planning and will implement the next steps in the coming time. Along with the project to preserve and develop the lacquer craft village, especially when there is more "support" from the OCOP Program, it is expected to "revive" the lacquer craft village that was once famous at home and abroad.
Move with the trend
Recently, many products from this craft village have been recognized as meeting OCOP standards. Mr. Truong Hoan Nguyen, Director of Dinh Hoa Lacquer Company Limited (Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, Thu Dau Mot City), said: the company has 20 lacquer products that have just been recognized by the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City as meeting 3-star OCOP standards. Lacquer products with OCOP "stars" are not only a new business opportunity but also open up a new direction for the product.
By participating in the OCOP program, Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer products will have access to a wider market, the craft village will be guided on the production process, origin, and have the opportunity to access official distribution channels and export. This will contribute to increasing the quality and high value of Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer; at the same time, creating stable and sustainable income for the craft village community.
Having gone through many stages of development, Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer is now transforming strongly in the process of international economic integration. In recent years, consumers have favored handicraft products that are both decorative and have utility value.
Mr. Nguyen said that Dinh Hoa lacquer products have met the needs of consumers and affirmed the brand not only thanks to its reputation and quality but also because of the mark of skillful hands and creativity of talented craftsmen. Currently, Dinh Hoa lacquer products are mainly used as domestic gifts such as trays, boxes, vases, pictures, etc.
Mr. Nguyen shared that the socio-economic development follows new trends, the products of the craft village are affected to a certain extent. Mr. Nguyen is struggling to find a way to prevent the local traditional craft from being lost. Initially, he changed the technology, creating lacquer gift products with new designs and forms to attract customers.
He also boldly cooperated with travel companies and schools in the area to organize tours and experiences. Hopefully, this new business model will contribute to opening up more development directions for businesses and contributing to preserving and promoting the values of the craft village.
