China builds modernized Type-055 destroyer
China is building its ninth Type-055 destroyer with many modifications, according to the military magazine Navy Recognition.
The original Type-055 destroyers consisted of eight ships. They were built at shipyards in Jiangnan and Dalian. The lead destroyer Nanchang (hull number 101) joined the People's Liberation Army Navy in January 2020. The Sanyang (hull number 108) was commissioned in the spring of 2023. The ninth Type-055 was laid down in late 2023.
The Type 055 destroyer has received a number of improvements in superstructure design. In particular, the open area has been increased, helping to improve the crew's situational awareness.

The primary purpose of the Type-055 destroyers is to escort aircraft carrier battle groups. They operate in a similar way to the US Navy's Ticonderoga-class cruisers as command posts for fleets.
In China, the Type 055 destroyers are classified as 4th generation warships. They have a displacement of about 13,000 tons, which is second only to the US Zumwalt-class destroyers (displacement - 14,500 tons), but superior to the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga cruisers.
The length of the Type-055 destroyer is 183m, width - 20m, draft - 6.6m. Equipped with 4 QC-280 gas turbines with a capacity of 28 MW, these ships reach speeds of up to 30 knots. Cruising range - 5,000 nautical miles. Crew - more than 300 people.
The ship's equipment includes a vertical launch system with 112 wells, more than the US Arleigh Burke-class destroyers with 96 wells.
The Type-055 destroyers are equipped with HQ-9B air defense missiles with a range of up to 200km and HQ-26 missiles (similar to the US SM-3), YJ-18A anti-ship missiles (similar to the Russian missile). The arsenal also includes YU-8A anti-submarine missiles. These ships are also equipped with H/PJ-38 130mm automatic naval guns, four H/PJ-11 30mm air defense gun systems, HQ-10 short-range air defense missile systems and torpedoes.
The Chinese Navy plans to commission a batch of eight improved Type-055 destroyers.
Serbia buys PULS rocket launchers from Israel
Serbia has become the buyer of the PULS multiple launch rocket system and the Hermes-900 drone from the Israeli company Elbit Systems. Earlier, the Israeli company announced that it would fire a new batch of weapons for unnamed customers by the end of 2024.
In November 2024, Elbit Systems signed a contract to supply PULS rocket artillery systems and Hermes-900 drones to an unnamed European country for a total value of $335 million. The contracts will be implemented over the next three years.
Following the message from the Israeli company, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced the signing of an agreement to supply “the most powerful artillery system in the world”, exceeding the capabilities of HIMARS, which Croatia plans to purchase from the United States. In addition, Serbia announced the acquisition of some of the world's "most advanced" drones. A. Vučić did not disclose the type and number of weapons systems ordered.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz confirmed on January 1, 2025 that the order announced by Elbit Systems was placed by Serbia. The purchase was made in the context of warming Israel-Serbia relations.
Along with Serbia, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain have chosen PULS rocket artillery. The specific configuration of the PULS system for Serbia has not been disclosed.
The PULS rocket launcher comes in several versions. In the basic version, the rocket launcher is mounted on a 6x6 wheeled chassis and provides the ability to transport two mobile launchers with 18 rounds each. PULS is available in AccuLAR RS 122mm (range up to 40 km) or RS 160mm (range up to 45 km) configurations. In addition, the system can carry four 306mm Extra tactical missiles with a range of up to 150 km or two 370mm Predator Hawk missiles with a range of up to 300 km.
