At the event "Minister of Education and Training meets teachers, managers, and employees of the education sector" held this morning, August 15, many teachers in localities continued to express concerns about teaching integrated subjects at secondary school level in the context of no teachers trained in integration, and teachers teaching single subjects after a short training period switching to integrated teaching, causing the teaching quality to not be as expected...

Minister Nguyen Kim Son said he will consider the decision to adjust integrated subjects in the near future.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son agreed with the above comments and said that this is a new point, a difficult point, a stuck point, a bottleneck in the innovation of the general education program in recent times.

According to Mr. Son, when designing the program, we want to develop comprehensive capacity for students. However, in the process of implementation, localities, educational institutions, and teachers are facing certain difficulties.

There are teachers who are qualified enough to teach integrated with all components. However, there are also many teachers who are still confused and it is a big challenge, especially for teachers in difficult areas, even though they have been trained and fostered.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son informed: "Based on reality, the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training will decide in the near future to consider adjusting the teaching of integrated subjects at secondary school level. It is possible to persist in primary school, but for secondary school, we will consult with experts, consider carefully and will most likely make adjustments to integrated subjects."

However, Mr. Son also affirmed that no matter what adjustment is made, he will try not to disrupt the current team, especially the team that has been trained and nurtured; the change will only be better and more effective for innovation. If there is any, it will be a big adjustment but it will be suitable for the requirements of educational innovation.

Recently, Thanh Nien Newspaper published a series of articles reflecting the opinions and suggestions of teachers and experts on the implementation of integrated teaching. Among them, the article by teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang, Principal of Marie Curie School (Hanoi): "Should eliminate the integration of some subjects so that "the old way we return" received special agreement from the teaching profession.

After specifically analyzing the shortcomings of integrated teaching, teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang said that the implementation of integrating 3 subjects of physics, chemistry, and biology into natural science; integrating 2 subjects of history and geography into history and geography is too forced; he does not see any advantages, only sees trouble for the teaching of natural science teachers.

"I propose that after replacing all textbooks from grades 1 to 12 (in 2025), the National Assembly and the Government evaluate the entire 2018 General Education Program and the textbooks that have been used. In my opinion, we should abandon the integration of some subjects in secondary schools. The old way is: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography are independent subjects, with separate textbooks printed for each subject," wrote teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang.

After this article, Thanh Nien Newspaper received opinions, shares, and recommendations to adjust integrated subjects from many teachers across the country.
