TPO - It is expected that 6 secondary schools in Thu Duc City, District 7 and Hoc Mon District (HCMC) will organize surveys to recruit students for grade 6 in the 2024-2025 school year. The remaining schools will consider recruiting.
On the afternoon of March 27, at a working session with the Culture - Social Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) of Ho Chi Minh City reported on the enrollment work for the 2024-2025 school year.
Mr. Le Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the entrance exam for grade 6 in Ho Chi Minh City. |
Mr. Le Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said that it is expected that six schools will conduct entrance exams to enroll students in grade 6, namely Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Hoa Lu Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School (Thu Duc City), Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7), Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District) and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School - High School (District 1). Of which, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School - High School is developing a project. These are some advanced schools, internationally integrated or have students registering in excess of the quota. The remaining schools will consider enrolling students in grade 6.
Mr. Nam informed that in the 2024-2025 school year, the number of 6th graders in Ho Chi Minh City will be about 128,000, a decrease of 24,000 compared to last year. Meanwhile, the number of 1st graders will increase by more than 5,000. Ho Chi Minh City continues to use GIS (geographic information system) as a support tool in allocating students to schools and expanding the scope throughout the city.
Last year, Ho Chi Minh City had two schools that recruited students for grade 6: Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School (Thu Duc City) and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (currently there is a plan to split into two schools, including Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School and High School for the Gifted to recruit students for the junior high school level). In previous years, only Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted used this form of recruitment.
Speaking with Tien Phong newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City said that if approved, from the next school year, Thu Duc City will have three secondary schools recruiting students for grade 6 through a survey.
The Thu Duc City Education Department will proactively compile the content of the survey with a structure similar to the 6th grade entrance exam at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, but the level will be lighter. The survey will take place simultaneously at 3 schools including Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Hoa Lu Secondary School, and Binh Tho Secondary School.
"The entrance exam will evaluate the student's ability more fairly than the admission exam. Students do not need to practice for the exam. By studying well from grade 1 to grade 5, they can participate in the assessment" - Mr. Nguyen advised.
