Ahead of the 2024 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Vinamilk announced that the Vietnam Beverage Factory has achieved carbon neutrality according to the international standard PAS 2060:2014. Thus, Vinamilk now owns 3 units (including 2 factories and 1 farm) that have achieved carbon neutrality certification, demonstrating the company's drastic steps on the way to the goal of Net Zero by 2050.

Vietnam Beverage Factory – A new piece in Vinamilk's "green" factory system
Recently, Vinamilk continued to receive the international carbon neutrality certification (PAS 2060:2014) from the British Standards Institute (BSI) for the Vietnam Beverage Factory. According to this certification, the total amount of carbon neutralized at the factory under scope 1 and scope 2 (scope 1 & 2) is 3,410 tons of CO2e. This result comes from a dual effort: reducing emissions in production while maintaining a green tree fund to absorb greenhouse gases over the years.
Vietnam Beverage Factory is located in Ben Cat town, Binh Duong province, built by Vinamilk and put into operation since 2010. The factory has been continuously invested in improving production capacity, currently, has a design capacity of more than 282 million products/year and is producing popular Vinamilk product lines such as Susu and Yomilk yogurt drinks, Sure Prevent ready-to-drink milk powder for adults, Icy drinks...
Following Vinamilk's sustainable development strategy, for many years now, Vietnam Beverage Factory has implemented many green, environmentally friendly production solutions such as applying green energy, renewable energy; using modern technology to help save energy such as heat circulation at the product sterilization stage, water circulation at the product cooling stage...
Vietnam Beverage Factory is invested in modern, energy-saving, highly automated processing technology.
Currently, the proportion of green and clean energy (including solar energy, CNG...) accounts for more than 92% of the energy consumed at the factory and according to the greenhouse gas inventory report, the factory's emissions in 2023 have decreased by 30% compared to 2022. "Greening" efforts have helped the factory meet strict requirements according to international standards such as ISO 50001 energy certification, ISO 14001 environmental certification and now PAS 2060:2014 carbon neutral certification.
Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Production Director of Vinamilk presented a souvenir tree to the representative of BSI Vietnam.
“A full and detailed inventory and assessment of emissions will help businesses have the right perspective to systematically build a roadmap for reduction and neutralization. As the unit that conducts verification of these activities at many Vinamilk factories, it can be said that their practices can be a typical example for businesses that are on the path to greening themselves and contributing to Vietnam's overall Net Zero goal,” said Mr. Le Duyen Anh, General Director of BSI Vietnam.
Previously, two other Vinamilk units, Nghe An Dairy Factory and Nghe An Dairy Farm, were the first units in the dairy industry to achieve carbon neutrality certification according to PAS 2060:2014. Thus, in less than a year after announcing the Action Program towards Net Zero “Vinamilk Pathways to Dairy Net Zero 2050”, Vinamilk has had 3 units achieving this certification.
Each product delivered to consumers reduces its “carbon footprint”
After announcing the Vinamilk Pathways to Dairy Net Zero 2050 action program in mid-2023, Vinamilk has continuously implemented projects to reduce carbon footprint as well as maintain and implement tree planting activities to form greenhouse gas absorption tanks. Specifically, Vinamilk is continuing to increase the rate of using green, clean energy to replace fossil energy, optimize production technology to reduce emissions, be environmentally friendly, research projects to help regenerate and circulate to save resources...
Green production is one of the four strategic directions identified by Vinamilk to achieve the Net Zero goal, including Sustainable Livestock - Green Production - Environmentally Friendly Logistics - Sustainable Consumption. With many synchronous and comprehensive solutions in all four aspects, Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Executive Director of Production and Head of Net Zero Project of Vinamilk, said that there will be more units achieving carbon neutrality in the near future, affirming Vinamilk's determination and determination in minimizing the "Carbon Footprint" on the way to Net Zero as committed.
Mr. Le Hoang Minh added: “Vinamilk is synchronously implementing solutions on environmentally friendly technology, green energy conversion, applying circular economy... to build a model of factories that are not only modern, meet international quality, but also increasingly greener. With the determination of the board of directors and the positivity of all employees, Vinamilk will make more efforts so that the journey of each of our products to consumers will gradually reduce the carbon footprint.”
For example, at the Vietnam Beverage Factory, in 2023, 6 initiatives to save electricity and energy from the factory's own employees were recorded and implemented. In addition, the factory also applied many activities such as: using machines to process food waste into fertilizer for plants, machines to collect and sort product boxes for recycling, using bicycles/electric vehicles within the area, planting more green areas, browsing and storing documents online instead of printing on paper... helping to "green" the working environment.
Vinamilk's Net Zero programs are well received and actively contributed to by employees.
It is known that the leading enterprise in the Vietnamese dairy industry is currently applying nearly 20 international standard management systems for the entire chain of operations, to ensure that products not only meet strict requirements on food safety and hygiene but also ensure aspects related to sustainable development. Vinamilk is also actively working with consulting units and leading experts on sustainable development of the dairy industry at home and abroad to build the most suitable solutions for the actual conditions of Vietnam.
In parallel with greenhouse gas emission reduction activities, Vinamilk has been implementing projects to form large-scale carbon sinks such as: Maintaining and developing existing green tree funds at Farms and Factories; Project to conserve natural forest area of over 1,000 hectares in Xieng Khouang, Laos; Project to regenerate 25 hectares of mangrove forest in Mui Ca Mau National Park and Net Zero Forest within the framework of Tree Planting Activities towards Net Zero 2050 in cooperation with Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper...
The project to regenerate 25 hectares of Ca Mau mangrove forest was launched by Vinamilk in 2023.
Pioneering in sustainable development, Vinamilk announced its Commitment and Roadmap to Net Zero by 2050, responding to the commitment of the Vietnamese Government at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26). Accordingly, Vinamilk aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2027, 55% by 2035 and move towards net zero emissions by 2050. Vinamilk is the first Vietnamese enterprise to participate in the global initiative of the dairy industry "Pathways to Dairy Net Zero". In 2023, Vinamilk will be the most sustainable brand in Vietnam, in the Top 5 most sustainable dairy brands globally (according to Brand Finance). |
