At least 17 workers were killed and three others injured on August 1 when a crane collapsed at a road construction site in the western state of Maharashtra, Indian officials said.

The incident occurred in an area near the city of Shahapur, about 71km northeast of the capital Mumbai of Maharashtra state.
India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was quick to reach the scene to carry out search and rescue operations.
NDRF said 17 bodies were recovered from the scene. Three injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of life in the incident and announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.
