Instead of selling individually, linking is the way that many OCOP entities (the "One Commune One Product" program) choose to create a diverse and convenient product set, increasing the competitiveness of the OCOP product basket this Tet holiday.
Investment from production technology to packaging
Ms. Ha Thi Ngoc Diep, Deputy Director of Thanh Son Phu Tho Sour Meat Cooperative (Phu Tho province), said that in preparation for the Tet holiday, from the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2024, the Cooperative has proactively sourced raw materials, linked with local pig farmers to ensure food hygiene and safety, and increased meat output for production.
Not only focusing on quality, many units also invest in production technology lines.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Hao (Hao Anh Agricultural Cooperative, Lao Cai province), with the desire to bring local specialties such as Seng Cu Muong Vi rice and Muong Khuong sticky rice, Tay Bac purple sticky rice... closer to consumers, the Cooperative has invested in installing a high-tech rice milling line.
Grasping the market demand early, Dong Hoa Lotus Agricultural Service Cooperative (Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province) has increased its output by 40%. Director of the Cooperative Pham Thi Bich Thuy shared that the Cooperative has 6 lotus processed products that have achieved 3-star OCOP.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang combines many OCOP products into Tet gift sets
In addition to products made from lotus seeds and lotus hearts, the cooperative has researched additional products that suit consumer tastes such as: lotus leaf tea, lotus tea, lotus root tea, etc. Currently, the cooperative focuses on human resources, ensuring safe sources of goods, production according to traditional techniques and methods, eye-catching product packaging, suitable for use as gifts.
To enhance the competitiveness of their products, many OCOP entities have invested in and come up with ideas for gift baskets made from bamboo, paper boxes and accessories that are suitable for the local characteristics of the products. According to Ms. Trinh Kim Thu, General Director of MD Queens Joint Stock Company, the company's main product is black tea, which has been granted a 4-star OCOP certification.
To include tea boxes in the Tet gift sets, the company has carefully researched and understood customer tastes, focusing on personalization and reasonable prices (gift sets cost from 200,000 VND or more). In particular, the company also designs products suitable for offering to ancestors or temples and pagodas at the beginning of the new year.
Link to increase competitiveness
A notable feature in the Tet gift basket market this year is the appearance of product sets, demonstrating the connection between OCOP entities, instead of individual products.
Diverse OCOP product sets
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, Thien Tam Huong agarwood brand (Ha Tinh province), said: “I have invested in designing bags and boxes with eye-catching designs, combining many local OCOP products such as agarwood buds, tea, dried fruits... into gift sets to meet customers' needs for buying as gifts. With a price of more than 600,000 VND for a gift set, OCOP product gift baskets promise to bring more choices to consumers.”
This is also the method that Ms. Le Hong Van (Bac Giang province) applies to combine traditional Tet products such as Che Lam cakes, rice crackers, malt... of the enterprise with other units specializing in tea, dried nuts, dried fruits... to make the Tet gift set more diverse.
“If OCOP products are promoted individually, it will be harder to sell and their competitiveness will be weaker. The connection between entities and production units creates a diverse product range, making it easier for customers to access, and consuming more products for the locality, especially agricultural products from mountainous, remote and isolated areas,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh (Thai Nguyen Agricultural Specialties Group).
Sharing the same view, Mr. Anh Dao Quang Vu, founder and operator of the booth "Nghe An Specialties", shared that, as a place to display and sell typical OCOP products of Nghe An province, the booth currently has 300 OCOP product codes that have achieved 3 stars at the provincial level or higher.
The target customers of the booth are agencies, organizations, units, businesses ordering gifts, and Nghe An people living far from home who want to enjoy the flavors of their hometown. From this connection, we hope to not only have a Tet market but also other potential markets."
