Dried buffalo meat and pork products are 2 of 4 products of Yen Phuong business establishment, Nghia Lo town that have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products.
Nghia Lo is increasingly known to people nationwide for its community tourism products of the Thai people in Muong Lo with over 300,000 visitors coming here every year.
Thanks to the development of tourism, local specialties and products are also consumed more easily, in larger quantities and further. And upgrading those products from traditional, handmade, and primitive products to those with logos, labels, ensuring food safety standards and traceability like the OCOP Program is a completely correct and appropriate way to do it, especially in the current market mechanism of mixed real and fake products.
Specializing in producing smoked and dried products, Ms. Truong Thi Hai Yen's production facility in Tan An ward has 4 products including: dried pork, dried buffalo meat, smoked pork belly, and sausages that meet 3-star OCOP standards.
Ms. Yen shared: "In 2020, from a production, preliminary processing and manual processing facility, I expanded the scale of the factory to 250 m2; invested 1.3 billion VND in machinery and processing equipment such as: cold storage system, storage cabinet, drying oven, electric steamer, oven, spice grinder, meat grinder and product packaging machine. At the end of that year, all 4 products of the facility were recognized as meeting the province's 3-star OCOP standards. OCOP helps our products to be sold at over 70 points of sale and agents in and outside the province, with annual revenue of over 4 billion VND. Therefore, in 2023, when the product expired, I urgently completed the procedures to ensure re-recognition".
To achieve 3 OCOP stars, Ms. Yen pays special attention to food hygiene and safety issues - considering this the first and foremost issue in the production and trading of processed products.
She signs contracts with slaughterhouses, selects fresh, clean buffalo and pork meat and other ingredients that are certified to meet food safety and hygiene requirements; absolutely does not use preservatives and unsafe additives. At the same time, she hires designers to design packaging, logos, labels, and containers to suit the requirements of a variety of customers.
Nghia Lo - the ancient land of the Black Thai people with traditional production methods and unique culture and cuisine, has produced many typical products and famous specialties. For many years, the town has directed specialized agencies and People's Committees of communes and wards to guide and urge entities with typical products to register to participate in the OCOP Program, complete assessment and classification records to submit to councils at all levels for appraisal and approval.
The town also focuses on guiding entities to develop business plans, production models and supporting entities to participate in trade promotion, advertising, e-commerce platforms, product display at fairs, cultural and tourism festivals, local events, etc., contributing to consumption and building a separate brand for each product.
Mr. La Nhu Huy - Owner of Huy Phuong business with 3-star OCOP product Ban Trang Shrimp Floss, Cau Thia ward shared: "Among countless pre-processed shrimp floss products on the market, to be able to compete, there needs to be certifications to help users feel secure in using them. OCOP is the best certification, suitable for rural products. Since our products were recognized as 3-star OCOP, they have affirmed their reputation and product quality, and have been supported by the province and town to promote and introduce widely, so consumption is much better than before."
Up to now, Nghia Lo town has 21 products recognized as OCOP; of which, there are up to 18 local specialties. The products have been and are being loved by consumers, especially tourists, and chosen as gifts after each trip to this land.
