Cloud hunting and waterfall bathing in the mountainous district of Khanh Son

Khanh Son District is considered as "miniature Da Lat" of Khanh Hoa with cool weather, majestic mountains and forests, suitable for exploring nature.

In contrast to the long, beautiful and vibrant beaches in the East, the West of Khanh Hoa province is a space of mountains, forests and quiet nature. Those who like to return to nature, away from the noisy city can follow Provincial Road 656, cross the winding Khanh Son Pass to reach To Hap Town - the center of the district. The district attracts tourists with its poetic mountain and forest scenery and interesting experiences when immersing themselves in the great forest.

A must-see destination when coming to Khanh Son is Ta Gu waterfall - a muse in the middle of the mountains and forests. Ta Gu waterfall originates from Hon Ba peak, which is 1,300 meters high. Hon Ba is located quite high so it often rains. Thanks to that, the water in Ta Gu waterfall almost never dries up and flows all year round. The waterfall is located in the middle of the forest, completely separate from the city and man-made structures. Visitors have to follow a trail about 200 meters.

Crossing the trail, visitors will see a waterfall about 40 meters high, roaring down to the lake. The lake at the foot of the waterfall is more than 200 meters wide and is quite quiet, with clear, emerald green water. Experiences to try are bathing in the waterfall or SUP rowing. Currently, the waterfall area also provides camping services, enjoying mountain dishes, grilled meat, and bamboo rice. In particular, Khanh Son is considered the fruit capital of the province, so visitors can enjoy more fruits such as durian, rambutan, and mangosteen right in the middle of the stream.

After lunch at Ta Gu waterfall, visitors can spend time checking in at the pine hills, visiting villages, and learning about the culture of the Raglai people - the ethnic group that mainly lives in this area. The most unique feature of Raglai culture is the unique musical instrument system and unique folk songs. The Raglai people are famous for their ma la and Chapi - the main inspiration in the song Chapi Dream by Tran Tien. If you come at the right time, you can also witness the new rice celebration, the grave-leaving ceremony... The life of the people here is still quite primitive, the people are honest and hospitable.

After a night's rest at homestays and hotels in To Hap Town, visitors can wake up early and travel to Ba Cum Nam or Ba Cum Bac communes to hunt for clouds at dawn. With an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the clouds here are white and fluffy, hanging along the mountain slopes, hovering over rooftops, and creeping into orchards... According to locals, the best time to hunt for clouds is from 5:30 to 9:00. Clouds appear in batches, not just once like in Da Lat.

Nowadays, Khanh Son has emerged as a new destination in Khanh Hoa. Services for tourists have started to improve. Expressways such as Cam Lam - Vinh Hao have been put into operation, making it easier to connect this mountainous district.

On August 13, VnExpress Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang will take place with more than 11,000 runners participating. Of these, about 8,000 are from other provinces. After VM Nha Trang, runners can go to Khanh Son for sightseeing in a two-day, one-night schedule. The time of VM is also the time when the mountainous district is in its most beautiful season of the year. From this district, it only takes about an hour to travel to Cam Ranh airport, and two hours to connect to Nha Trang.
