(CLO) On February 4, Phu Tho province held an incense offering ceremony to commemorate and pay tribute to Mother Au Co according to the official traditional ritual in Hien Luong commune, Ha Hoa district. This is not only an opportunity for people to express their gratitude to their ancestors but also an opportunity to promote the nation's good cultural values to international friends.
According to reporters, from early morning, thousands of tourists and delegates eagerly went to Au Co Temple to attend the festival.
The opening part is the ceremony to worship the village's tutelary god and the procession, carrying offerings from Duc Ong temple to Au Co temple. The procession takes place jubilantly, amidst the echoes of drums and gongs during the festival.
Before the spirit of Mother Au Co, Chairman of Ha Hoa District People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Anh read a speech expressing gratitude to Mother Au Co and praying for her to bless the country with peace and prosperity, favorable weather, good crops, and a prosperous and happy life.
At the ceremony, the delegates respectfully offered incense, flowers, and gifts to Mother Au Co. After the incense and gift offering ceremony was the female worshiping ceremony (the main part of the ceremony). The female worshiping team consisted of young, beautiful, and educated girls. They all wore colorful ao dai, with gold scarves and silk belts, while the main celebrant wore a red outfit. In a solemn and respectful atmosphere, the female worshiping officers performed the ceremony to Mother Au Co according to traditional rituals.
The festival has profound historical value, vividly reflecting the legend of Lac Long Quan - Au Co and the sac of 100 eggs. At the same time, it is an important highlight in the flow of religious and spiritual life.

The practice of worshipping Mother Au Co at Mother Au Co Temple in Hien Luong Commune contributes to educating about the tradition of patriotism, national pride, the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", and respect and gratitude to ancestors. With its special spiritual and cultural values, in January 2017, “The worship of Mother Au Co” at Mother Au Co Temple in Hien Luong Commune, Ha Hoa District was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is the first festival of the year, opening the festivals in the Land of the Hung Kings.
According to legend, on the 7th day of the first lunar month, the fairy Au Co descended to earth, then met and married Lac Long Quan, gave birth to a sac of one hundred eggs which hatched into one hundred sons, the origin of the Lac Hong race.
In Hien Luong commune, Ha Hoa district, a beautiful landscape, Mother Au Co stayed to teach people how to grow rice, grow mulberry, raise silkworms, and weave cloth, until she and the fairy flew to heaven on December 25, leaving a silk bodice under the banyan tree. Right there, the people built a temple to worship her, burning incense for generations and receiving royal decrees from feudal dynasties, restoring her to become a temple to worship the Mother Goddess.
