Strive to become amateur tour guides
On the afternoon of December 28, in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa Province), the Nha Trang City Labor Federation held the launching ceremony of the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Quang Nhat, Vice President of Nha Trang City Labor Federation, said that cyclo tourism is becoming a typical product chosen by many international tourists, especially Korean tourists and cruise tourists, on their journey to explore the coastal city in the past 2 years.
Preliminary statistics show that there are currently about 300 cyclos operating in the city to serve the travel and sightseeing needs of tourists. In addition to the cyclo drivers who operate in compliance with the law, prioritize serving tourists, and contribute to building a more beautiful image of Nha Trang City in the eyes of tourists, there are also groups and individuals who work in a snatch-and-grab manner. Some cases leave a bad impression, causing insecurity and disorder in the city.
Mr. Le Quang Nhat, Vice President of Nha Trang City Labor Federation informed about the urgent need to establish Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union.
From that reality, in September 2023, through understanding the thoughts, feelings and aspirations of the majority of workers working in the tourism cyclo profession, the City Labor Federation assessed the need to establish a Tourism Cyclo Union. This is both an organization to gather freelance workers in specific occupations to work together with goals, transparent operation orientation, compliance with the law, ensuring safety, security and order. The established cyclo union has operating regulations, harmonious, strict, legal internal rules, as well as a reasonable management method. The main goal is to protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of cyclo workers and bring benefits to tourists.
“Through synthesizing the opinions of the union members, we promise to always comply with the regulations, operate according to our duties and always strive to become an amateur tour guide contributing to promoting the image of the tourist city of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa”, said Mr. Nhat.

Launching Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union
The Nha Trang Tourism Cyclo Union was established on December 22 with 264 members. The provisional executive board of the union consists of 7 members, chaired by Mr. Le Quang Nhat, Vice President of the Nha Trang City Labor Federation. At the ceremony, leaders of Khanh Hoa province presented flowers to congratulate the Union; the Provincial Labor Federation and the Nha Trang City Labor Federation donated 15 million VND to the Union.
On behalf of 264 cyclo drivers, Mr. Nguyen Duy Anh shared: “We are honored to be admitted as members of the Vietnam Trade Union. We promise to comply with all regulations of the Vietnam Trade Union Charter, as well as the assignment of the Provisional Executive Committee of the Trade Union in all activities.”
Mr. Tran Van Hoa, a cyclo driver, said: "After joining the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union, I found my job better and my income more stable than before."
The provisional executive committee of the Union was introduced and received decisions at the ceremony.
Leaders of Khanh Hoa province, leaders of the Provincial Labor Federation and Nha Trang City Labor Federation presented flowers and money to support the Union.
At the ceremony, Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet, Chairman of the Nha Trang City Labor Federation, said that the establishment of the Nha Trang Tourist Cyclo Union is an important breakthrough in the special social labor relations, to care for and protect the legitimate and legal rights of workers and promote sustainable development in this field. Transporting tourists by cyclo not only creates job opportunities and income for many workers but also contributes significantly to promoting the image and culture of Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province to all over the world.
However, it cannot be denied that cyclo drivers also face many challenges. Workers have to face difficulties in working environment, working conditions and their rights. Therefore, it is necessary to create a fair and safe working environment and create conditions for cyclo drivers to develop and improve their quality of life.

After the ceremony, the union members pedaled cyclos through the streets of Nha Trang City, giving locals and tourists a unique experience, while also honoring the traditional profession and connecting the cyclo community.
Union members propose some recommendations
At the launching ceremony, union members also made a number of proposals to the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments to remove some limitations, creating conditions for union members to operate more effectively.
In particular, it is proposed to the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to allow cyclos to circulate on Tran Phu street and tourist attractions in the city, and to allow union members to pick up and drop off passengers at night markets, hotels, and entertainment venues on Tran Phu street.
In addition, it is recommended that the authorities study and consider regulations allowing tourist cyclos to be equipped with electric power steering (no throttle, maximum speed of 15km/h) to support workers, especially older workers, and at the same time, reduce the fear of tourists when getting on tourist cyclos...
In addition, create conditions for union members to update their knowledge on traffic safety, occupational safety and hygiene, tourism, etc. to raise awareness among union members. At the same time, propose to support health insurance for cyclo workers.
