Quang Ngai province speeds up vaccination progress for children

Currently, the Tropical Diseases Department of Quang Ngai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is treating 22 cases of measles. These children have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses. The department has arranged an isolation area to treat measles patients separately, to avoid cross-infection in the hospital.

According to statistics from the provincial Center for Disease Control, in the first quarter of 2024, Quang Ngai recorded 2 cases of measles. However, in the first 3 months of this year alone, the whole province had 174 suspected cases of measles, of which 113 cases tested positive for the measles virus. Through the survey, more than 93% of cases were not vaccinated, or were incompletely vaccinated.

To strengthen disease prevention in the community, the unit has provided 4,800 doses of measles vaccine and more than 22,500 doses of measles-rubella vaccine to implement a vaccination campaign to prevent and control measles in the area.

The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has issued an official dispatch on accelerating measles vaccination. It requires the Department of Health to review and assess the measles situation in the province to organize a measles vaccination campaign according to the Ministry of Health's instructions, to prevent outbreaks. Coordinate with relevant departments and sectors to accelerate the vaccination progress, to be completed in March.

Da Nang launches measles vaccination campaign

The People's Committee of Da Nang City has also just issued a plan to implement a measles vaccination campaign in 2025. Implementing a measles vaccination campaign in Da Nang is very necessary, because the city has a high population density, is an important traffic hub and is a destination for many international tourists, increasing the risk of disease intrusion.

As of March 15, Da Nang has recorded 2,218 cases of rash fever suspected of measles, of which 504 cases tested positive for measles. Notably, the number of cases of children who are of age but have not been vaccinated accounts for 63.69%.

Da Nang has started vaccinating children from 6-9 months old and from 1-10 years old. The city aims to vaccinate 95% of children who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses of measles vaccine as prescribed by the end of March.
