On August 30, Vice Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee Dao My signed a decision to establish Phu Yen Geopark (PHU YEN GEOPARK).
Specifically, the Phu Yen Geopark area is located in 7 districts, towns and cities of the province including Tuy Hoa city, Song Cau town, Dong Hoa town, Tuy An district, and part of Phu Hoa, Tay Hoa and Son Hoa districts.
Phu Yen Geopark has a total land area of about 1,927 km2 and an inland water surface area of about 1,000 km2 (from the shore to a depth of about 50 m, including coastal islands).
The specific area, scope and boundaries of Phu Yen Geopark will be determined based on the results of the task "Investigation and survey of geological heritage potential and other heritage values in some areas of Phu Yen province".
According to the above decision, Phu Yen Geopark will be preserved intact and exploited, used reasonably, sustainably, and comprehensively with the values of geological heritage, geomorphology, natural landscape, cultural identity (tangible, intangible), biodiversity and oriented to build a dossier to submit to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province assigned the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism to take the lead in implementing and coordinating with agencies and units to advise the Provincial People's Committee to implement related contents according to Decision No. 1163/QD-UBND dated August 26, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee approving the Project to establish Phu Yen Geopark towards the title of UNESCO Global Geopark.
