At the Conference, delegates were informed about the current status of dikes and dams before the flood season, assessed weather trends and the possibility of storms and floods in 2023; provided guidance on technical measures to handle incidents of dikes and dams during the flood season and some disaster prevention and control measures; introduced and disseminated a number of legal documents related to the fields of disaster prevention and control, dikes and irrigation.
At the same time, delegates also discussed and exchanged experiences on disaster prevention, response and overcoming consequences in localities; difficulties and obstacles in implementing tasks; coordination between levels, sectors and localities in disaster prevention and control work...
Through the training conference, it helps the staff working in dike, irrigation, and flood prevention and control in the province update new regulations on flood prevention and control; master the skills and methods of dike protection, and handle natural disasters, thereby advising all levels and sectors in directing, operating, and organizing effective implementation of flood prevention and control work when natural disasters and storms occur.
Phu Tho is a midland and mountainous province with a unique geographical location of hills and mountains, and terrain divided by many rivers and streams... Phu Tho is often affected by heavy and frequent rains, causing flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding in many places.
Previously, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Phu Tho province inspected and urged sectors and localities to regularly inspect and review key areas of potential natural disasters, develop disaster response plans to ensure the safety of property and lives of people and the State, and promptly handle possible natural disasters.
At the same time, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has directed districts, cities and towns to improve their capacity to handle situations, incidents, command and control, and enhance the responsibility of all levels and sectors when natural disasters occur. In addition, the Phu Tho State-owned One Member Limited Liability Company for Irrigation Works has directed units to proactively operate to ensure the safety of reservoirs during floods. The unit has developed plans and operating procedures for large reservoirs and key projects, and at the same time, coordinated with localities to review and assess the safety of dams and reservoirs in the area; inspected, maintained, and repaired dams, pumping stations, and dredged drainage channels to ensure safe operation during the flood season; arranged forces to be on duty and promptly handle situations when they occur.
