On the afternoon of August 1, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang received Senior Executive Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yamada Junichi, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
At the reception, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their effective support in socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Vietnam through official development assistance (ODA) over the past 30 years, including a loan worth more than 60 million yen signed by the two sides in early July 2023.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his pleasure to meet again with Mr. Yamada Junichi to discuss ODA cooperation between the two countries, more than 2 months after his official visit to Japan to attend the 28th Conference on the Future of Asia and work in Japan.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed in depth the implementation of several ODA projects in Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that he regularly listened to reports from units on the progress of projects using Japanese ODA capital; affirming that the Vietnamese Government is actively removing difficulties and obstacles to promote these projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Government Office to request units to report on the progress of 7 projects using Japanese ODA capital, before holding a meeting to agree on solutions to promote the implementation of these projects, including 50 billion Yen in support for the implementation of the General Budget Support Program for Post-Covid-19 Recovery and Development; North-South Expressway Construction Project, Ben Luc-Long Thanh Section; Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Urban Railway Project; Cho Ray Hospital Construction Project, Branch 2; Hanoi Urban Railway Construction Project, Line 2, Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao Section; Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Project, Phase 2; Ho Chi Minh City Drainage Rehabilitation Project.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang proposed that Japan provide ODA for a number of railway projects, digital transformation, green transformation and climate change response in Vietnam.
JICA Vice President also informed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang about the orientation of supporting new generation ODA for Vietnam in the coming time, including standby credits in case of public health crises, natural disasters, supporting loans through intermediaries and equity financing for the private sector to implement infrastructure projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the proposals on new-generation ODA cooperation content proposed by JICA because they are suitable to Vietnam's needs, and assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to study and discuss specifically with JICA.
