Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh expressed his appreciation for the IMF's contributions in supporting Vietnam in recent times, especially in policy advice, technical assistance and capacity building for economic and financial management agencies. The Deputy Governor hoped that the IMF would continue to accompany the SBV and Vietnam's functional agencies in promoting economic reforms, ensuring macroeconomic stability and sustainable development.

On behalf of the IMF, Mr. Jochen Schmittmann congratulated the Deputy Governor on his new position and affirmed his commitment to continue working closely with the SBV and the Government of Vietnam. He expressed that, in his role as IMF Representative in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, he would continue to promote cooperation between the IMF and the Southeast Asian region in general and Vietnam in particular; especially in the areas of policy dialogue, consultancy and technical assistance in the fields of currency, banking and economic statistics.
Regarding Vietnam's macroeconomic situation, the Deputy Governor shared that 2025 is of great significance in completing the socio-economic development goals for the 2021-2025 period, creating a solid foundation for the next period. The SBV will continue to implement a proactive and flexible monetary policy, closely coordinating with fiscal policy to stabilize the macro-economy, control inflation and promote growth. In the context of many fluctuations in the world economy, the SBV will closely monitor the situation, promptly propose appropriate monetary policy solutions, ensure liquidity of the banking system and maintain stable exchange rates to minimize external risks. The Deputy Governor expects Mr. Jochen Schmittmann to continue to support Vietnam in providing policy advice, improving the capacity of the SBV as well as other functional agencies, towards the goal of sustainable growth and macroeconomic stability.

The Deputy Governor also suggested that the IMF more effectively implement existing technical assistance programs and research new capacity building projects to meet Vietnam's growing needs, especially in the fields of currency, banking and economic statistics.
In response, Mr. Jochen Schmittmann affirmed that the IMF will continue to accompany the Government and the SBV, providing policy recommendations and training support, to help Vietnamese management agencies achieve the development goals set by the Government and the National Assembly, and further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the IMF.
