Promoting the positive trend of Vietnam-China relations

This is the first visit to Vietnam of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang in his new position.

The visit took place in the context of the friendly neighborly relationship and the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership maintaining positive and substantive development momentum. Vietnam and China have both achieved many important results in national development.

Vietnam continues to actively implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and prepares to organize the 14th National Party Congress. The macro economy is stable; the scale and level of the economy and national defense and security capacity are constantly improved; potential, position and prestige in the international arena are consolidated; Party building and the fight against corruption and negativity continue to be focused on.

The situation in China is stable, the economy continues to recover with GDP increasing by 5% in the first half of 2024, and anti-corruption work is being strengthened. China maintains its position as the second largest economy in the world, with many sectors having high advantages.

The Third Plenum of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has just passed the “Decision on Comprehensively Deepening Reform and Promoting Chinese-Style Modernization”, identifying more than 300 reform measures covering all areas. In terms of foreign affairs, China continues to strengthen relations with neighboring countries and traditional partners.

Vietnam-China relations continue to be stable and progressing, becoming increasingly deeper, comprehensive and substantive. Important visits by the top leaders of the two countries in 2022 and 2023 contribute to deepening and elevating the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and building a Vietnam-China community of shared future of strategic significance.

During the State visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam in August 2024, the two sides agreed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promote the building of a Vietnam-China community of shared future of strategic significance.

Economic, trade, investment, tourism and educational cooperation has made many new strides. In the first 8 months of 2024, bilateral import-export turnover increased by 25% over the same period last year; China's investment in Vietnam reached 1.7 billion USD, continuing to rank first in newly licensed projects; the number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam reached 2.4 million, ranking second and accounting for 21.4% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam.

The two sides continued to coordinate to handle limitations and difficulties in a number of areas of cooperation, as well as the complicated situation at sea.

This is the first time Chinese Premier Li Qiang has visited Vietnam as head of the Chinese government, demonstrating China's respect and desire to further strengthen Vietnam-China relations. In the positive development trend of Vietnam-China relations, the visit will continue and create new momentum to promote cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Welcoming the Chinese Prime Minister on an official visit, Vietnam continues to affirm its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development; multilateralization, diversification, deepening foreign relations, increasing trust, equal cooperation and mutual benefit.

The visit also affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of prioritizing the development of relations with neighboring countries, including consolidating and deepening the friendly neighborly relationship and the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

The results of the meetings between the leaders of the two countries, as well as the cooperation agreements reached during the visit, will promote and contribute to strengthening political trust and promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of diplomacy, national defense and security, economy, trade, tourism, culture, education, people-to-people exchange, and local cooperation.

The successful official visit to Vietnam by Chinese Premier Li Qiang and the Chinese delegation will contribute to consolidating trust, enhancing cooperation, and promoting the positive development trend of the friendly neighborly relations, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and future-oriented relations between Vietnam and China in the new period.
