In Tu Mo Rong district, when talking about medicinal plants, people all say that they are 3 in 1 plants (poverty-reducing plants, wealth-making plants, and key plants). In fact, thanks to growing medicinal plants, especially Ngoc Linh ginseng, many people have escaped poverty and even become rich.
Up to now, the district has developed nearly 3,000 hectares of medicinal plants, including more than 1,710 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng. In the past 3 years, nearly 2,000 households in the area have escaped poverty, most of which are thanks to growing, buying and selling medicinal plants.

In Te Xang commune, to help people better understand the effectiveness of medicinal plant development, commune officials regularly participate in village meetings to grasp the thoughts, aspirations, needs and deploy the assignment of medicinal plant development targets in the commune to enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and households in accordance with the actual situation of the locality. The commune People's Committee has coordinated with enterprises, cooperatives, business households, and households to synthesize medicinal plant areas and implement on-site seedling cultivation to meet the demand for quality seeds for local people. To effectively grow medicinal plants, commune officials and civil servants also go to villages to guide people in preparing land, treating vegetation, digging holes; and building teams and groups to mobilize people to participate in developing medicinal plants. Particularly for Ngoc Linh ginseng, the commune People's Committee regularly coordinates with Ngoc Linh Forestry and villagers regularly declare the planting of Ngoc Linh ginseng under the forest canopy.
The leader of Te Xang Commune People's Committee said: The commune has identified medicinal plants as a key crop for economic development, helping people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty quickly and sustainably. Therefore, in the past time, the commune has implemented models to support production development for people, calling for investment attraction, and models of linking production with product consumption. Up to now, the area of medicinal plants in the commune is 215.2 hectares. Thanks to the development of medicinal plants, in Te Xang commune, many households have an annual income of hundreds of millions of VND, built spacious houses, and purchased expensive items such as the households of Mr. A Hai, A Dinh, A Bien (Dak Vien village), A Muon, A Phi, A Bu, A Mao (Tu Tho village), A Hinh (Dak Song village).
For example, Mr. A Hinh's family currently has thousands of Ngoc Linh ginseng plants and 4-5 sao of ginseng. Mr. A Hinh said that his family has been growing Ngoc Linh ginseng for 15 years, each year he saves and borrows more capital to develop a little more. From Ngoc Linh ginseng and ginseng, his family sells leaves, roots, and seeds, earning hundreds of millions of dong. Thanks to Ngoc Linh ginseng, his family was able to build a house, buy expensive items, and send his children to school.

In Ngoc Lay commune, there are currently 267/514 households growing Ngoc Linh ginseng, the most in Loc Bong village, nearly 100% of households grow Ngoc Linh ginseng. Households re-establish themselves into groups to grow, care for and protect Ngoc Linh ginseng day and night. To maintain and expand the area of Ngoc Linh ginseng, Ngoc Lay people boldly borrowed capital from the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Tu Mo Rong district, each household, individual worker can borrow 100 million VND to invest in growing Ngoc Linh ginseng.
Along with the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng, in Ngoc Lay commune, there are about 250 households participating in growing medicinal plants. The models of growing and developing medicinal plants have brought higher value than traditional plants such as cassava and rice.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Ngoc Lay commune, thanks to income from medicinal plants and Ngoc Linh ginseng, in 2022, the commune reduced 63 poor households, reaching a rate of 13.54%.
Seeing the effectiveness and the path out of poverty and becoming well-off thanks to medicinal herbs and Ngoc Linh ginseng, Tu Mo Rong people have changed their awareness, proactively investing in ginseng gardens instead of waiting for support. The proof is that in 2022, the total capital borrowed to invest in Ngoc Linh ginseng from the people is equal to the previous 5 years combined. As for the district, to support people in promoting the advantages of medicinal herbs and Ngoc Linh ginseng, along with promoting propaganda and mobilization, from capital sources, Tu Mo Rong district has built economic models of growing ginseng and medicinal herbs for people to participate in production; prioritize capital for people to borrow to invest in growing Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal herbs. Thanks to promoting strengths, up to now, the poverty rate (multidimensional) in Tu Mo Rong district has decreased to 47.26% (down 12.93% compared to the end of 2021 at 64.79%).
