On the morning of October 18, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Duong City held a ceremony to celebrate the 220th anniversary of the founding of Thanh Dong (1804 - 2024), the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hai Duong City (October 30, 1954 - October 30, 2024) and receive the First Class Labor Medal.

The speech commemorating the 220th anniversary of Thanh Dong's founding and the 70th anniversary of Hai Duong City's liberation, read by comrade Le Dinh Long, member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and Secretary of Hai Duong City Party Committee, at the ceremony, affirmed that this is an opportunity to arouse pride in the heroic fighting tradition of the people of Hai Duong City throughout its history of formation and development. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to look back at the difficult and arduous journeys and the glorious and heroic years that generations of ancestors, people of Thanh Dong in the past - Hai Duong City today, have fought and sacrificed to build and develop.
Reviewing the important historical milestones in the formation and development of Hai Duong City, the Secretary of the City Party Committee said that Hai Duong City has promoted the achievements in the process of building and developing the city since its establishment. The city became a type II urban area in 2009 and was recognized as a type I urban area in 2019.
After 220 years of establishing Thanh Dong, 70 years of liberating the city, from a Thanh Dong with an area of 0.35 km2 and about 1,000 people, Hai Duong City is now a class I urban area with an area of over 111 km2, a population of over 300,000 people and 25 administrative units. From the first Party cell with only 3 members, up to now the City Party Committee has over 19,000 members operating in 69 grassroots Party organizations. Cadres and Party members of the City Party Committee are always at the forefront of the patriotic emulation movement.
Hai Duong City Party Secretary Le Dinh Long emphasized that the Party Committee, government and people of Hai Duong City will continue to uphold the heroic tradition, sense of responsibility, self-reliance, solidarity, dynamism and creativity, and strive to successfully carry out socio-economic development tasks, building an increasingly prosperous city.
After 70 years of fighting, building and developing, the Party Committee, government and people of Hai Duong City have been awarded many noble awards by the Party and the State. In 2024, Hai Duong City was awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the President for its outstanding achievements in making Hai Duong City a class I urban area, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of Hai Duong province and the country.
At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Hai Duong Provincial Party Secretary Tran Duc Thang awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the Party Committee, government and people of Hai Duong City.

Emphasizing that Hai Duong City has a strategic position, a central role and is an important driving force for the province's development, the Provincial Party Secretary appreciated that the Party Committee, government and people of the city have united, joined hands, and overcome difficulties and challenges; strived to compete and achieve many important achievements.
From 1997 to 2019, Hai Duong City was upgraded to urban status three times; its administrative boundaries were gradually expanded. From a "small, disadvantaged town", Hai Duong City has transformed strongly, becoming a dynamically developing city, an urban area with relatively synchronous, civilized, modern infrastructure, rich in cultural identity, oriented towards a knowledge-based economy and smart urban area, with vibrant economic activities, and a high standard of living for the people.
The Provincial Party Secretary said that Hai Duong is striving to become a modern industrial province by 2030, meeting some basic criteria of a centrally-run city; and by 2050 becoming a centrally-run city. In particular, Hai Duong City continues to be identified as a core urban area, a central urban area, ensuring connectivity and promoting development between urban areas in the province with the Hanoi capital region and the Red River Delta region.
To successfully complete the set goals and tasks, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, cadres, party members, and people of Hai Duong City deeply understand the role and position of the city as a "locomotive", "nucleus", and "driving force" in the process of building and developing Hai Duong province. Focus on building a strong and comprehensive Party organization and political system; strive to build and develop Hai Duong city into a green, smart, modern city with a developed urban economy, completing the criteria of a type I city. Prepare well the conditions for successfully organizing Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term.
Hai Duong City needs to focus on synchronously implementing the city's master plan approved by the Prime Minister to expand urban space, technical infrastructure system, environmental landscape and system of major centers.
Review and adjust the population size, land and technical infrastructure development orientation to match the goals and solutions of Resolution No. 30-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development orientation, ensuring national defense and security for the development of the Red River Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and national planning.
Focus on maximizing resources, investing in improving urban quality, associated with preserving and promoting the fine and friendly cultural traditions of Thanh Dong people, paying attention to developing housing for people, especially housing for low-income people. Further promote administrative reform, attract investment; build Hai Duong city into a smart, modern, livable and friendly city.
Provincial Party Secretary Tran Duc Thang noted that Hai Duong City needs to pay attention to ensuring landscape, urban beauty, ecological environment; developing services, culture, tourism, creating many attractive destinations for people and tourists. Focus on developing education, taking care of people's health. Implementing social security policies well; ensuring national defense - security and order in the area, creating favorable conditions to expand foreign relations, develop the economy - society, for the peace and happiness of the people.
On behalf of the leaders of Hai Duong province, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Duc Thang called for the cooperation of enterprises inside and outside the province to continue to pay attention to investment and trade connection for the development of Hai Duong city and Hai Duong province.
The Provincial Party Secretary expressed his belief that with the rich tradition and achievements, the Party Committee, government and people of Hai Duong City will continue to unite, complete the set goals, further improve the material and spiritual life of the people; build Hai Duong City to be increasingly rich, civilized, modern and rich in cultural identity.
