California state officials (USA) have just arrested a group of suspects dressed as bears who attacked cars to collect insurance money.
The California Department of Insurance announced that four Los Angeles residents were arrested on November 13 for allegedly defrauding insurance companies of more than $140,000. The group provided a video in January saying that a bear had approached a Rolls-Royce and damaged the interior of the car, and provided images of what appeared to be scratches on the seats and doors, the South China Morning Post reported.
However, when viewing the video, Rolls-Royce insurance company noticed many strange things, suspecting that there was not a real bear inside the car but a person wearing a bear costume.

Inspectors also found two similar complaints of bears entering two Mercedes cars, with the notable incident occurring on the same day and in the same location, at a home in the Lake Arrowhead area of the San Bernardino Mountains, California.
The California Department of Insurance sent a biologist from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to evaluate the video, who concluded that it was clearly a person dressed as a bear.

After executing a search warrant on November 13, investigators discovered the bear costume at the suspect’s home. The four suspects, aged 26 to 39, were charged with insurance fraud, while officials said insurance companies were defrauded of about $141,000.
The suspects are believed to have taken advantage of the fact that bears are breaking into homes or rummaging through trash cans in California in search of food. Some reports have included bears rummaging through refrigerators or soaking in backyard swimming pools.
