Towards the 134th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday on May 19 (1890-2024), the 161st anniversary of the founding of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on May 8 (1863-2024), and the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7 (1954-2024), the Provincial Red Cross Society and Gio Linh District People's Committee jointly organized the launching ceremony of Humanitarian Month 2024 with the theme "Humanitarian Journey - Giving and Receiving Love". On the basis of promoting the core and bridging role in humanitarian activities, from 2018 to present since the organization launched the first Humanitarian Month, the Provincial Red Cross Society has mobilized and supported more than 70 thousand poor households, near-poor households, Agent Orange victims, orphans with disabilities, students in difficult circumstances... with a total value of over 25 billion VND.
This year's Humanitarian Month, the Provincial Red Cross in coordination with the Gio Linh District Red Cross initially mobilized nearly 700 million VND including cash, goods, bicycles for students, house repairs for poor households, support for humanitarian addresses, and provision of disaster prevention tools...

Some gifts have been given to the beneficiaries since May 1, 2024. The rest were given directly at the launching ceremony of the Humanitarian Month, including: milk for 46 disadvantaged students at Hoa Mai Kindergarten, Gio Linh town; 20 gifts worth 500,000 VND each for 40 disadvantaged students in the district; 40 gifts for 40 poor and near-poor households, each worth 300-500,000 VND; 27 bicycles were given to poor students. In addition, agencies and units in the district gave money to support humanitarian addresses, gifts to orphaned students...

After the launching ceremony, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in the province will continue to implement a series of peak activities to support the poor, people in difficult circumstances, and vulnerable people during the Humanitarian Month. In particular, focusing on sustainable and long-term support contents such as: supporting livelihood development, awarding scholarships, savings books, building Red Cross houses, building humanitarian works, supporting semi-boarding/boarding kitchens for schools in remote, isolated, and border areas, and mobilizing humanitarian addresses to provide long-term support to poor households and households in especially difficult circumstances.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam acknowledged and highly appreciated the meaningful contributions and commended the outstanding achievements that the provincial Red Cross Association at all levels, cadres, members and volunteers have achieved in humanitarian activities in recent times.

At the same time, it is recommended that Party committees and authorities at all levels in the province pay more attention to humanitarian activities implemented by Red Cross societies at all levels, notably the "Humanitarian Month" with the theme "Humanitarian Journey - Giving and Receiving Love", the "Million Steps of Humanity" campaign, the "Good People, Good Deeds - Joining Hands to Build a Humanitarian Community" movement, voluntary blood donation campaign, the "Safety for Poor Fishermen" program, the "Nutrition for Poor and Disabled Children" program, the "Humanitarian Tet" movement - Spring At Ty 2025.
