To proactively prevent damage caused by rats and contribute to protecting agricultural production, the Provincial People's Committee has just planned to organize the implementation of preventing and controlling rats from harming crops in 2024.

The goal is to eradicate rats simultaneously, focusing on many stages and implementing drastically in the flooding stage on a province-wide scale, preventing the harm caused by rats to production and life right from the beginning of the year.

Rat traps harm rice.

According to the plan of the Provincial People's Committee, the local rat extermination campaign will be launched in 3 phases, each lasting 5-7 days in 2024. Specifically, the first phase will be from May 10 to 17 to protect summer-autumn crops. The second phase will be from August 12 to 19 to protect winter-spring crops. The third phase will take place from November 25 to December 2 to protect winter-spring crops.

The Provincial People's Committee requested that the rat extermination campaign be launched and implemented simultaneously on a large scale from the province to districts, towns, cities, communes, wards, towns, villages, hamlets, to each household... Organize rat extermination from fields to ditches, gutters, dikes, banks, plots, mounds, roadsides, rat extermination from densely populated areas, on the outskirts of cities, towns, near industrial parks to village roads, alleys... Rat extermination must be done according to the right techniques, ensuring progress and time, and absolute safety for people, livestock, poultry and the environment.

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Directive No. 1900/CT-BNN-BVTV dated March 15, 2024 on strengthening rat prevention and control and protecting crop production. The content stated that crops often suffer losses due to rat damage, affecting productivity and output, especially rice. Every year, about 60,000 hectares of rice and many other crop areas are damaged by rats. Although there are few areas completely lost, many areas have to be replanted.
