Fined 180 million VND for company causing poisoning of more than 100 workers

The provincial People's Committee fined the meal provider VND180 million for causing workers at Hoang Xa Industrial Park to be hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning .

Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai has just signed and issued Decision No. 1995/QD-XPHC dated October 9, 2024, sanctioning administrative violations in the field of food safety against Hoang Thuy Trading and Service Company Limited - the unit providing industrial meals for Sunrise Apparel Vietnam Company Limited on August 28.

Accordingly, Hoang Thuy Trading and Service Company Limited committed an administrative violation: Processing, supplying, and selling food that caused food poisoning affecting the health of 5 or more people but not to the extent of criminal prosecution. Stipulated in: Point e, Clause 12, Article 1 of Decree No. 124/2021/ND-CP dated December 28, 2021 of the Government amending and supplementing Point a, Clause 8, Article 22 of Decree No. 115/2018/ND-CP dated September 4, 2018 of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations of food safety.

Pursuant to the provisions of law, Hoang Thuy Trading and Service Company Limited was fined VND 180 million. At the same time, the company's food processing and supply activities to Sunrise Apparel Vietnam Company Limited were suspended for 4 months from the effective date of the decision.

Sunrise Apparel Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hoang Xa Industrial Park, Thanh Thuy District) where mass poisoning occurred on August 28, 2024

Previously, information about the incident of more than 100 workers of Sunrise Apparel Vietnam Co., Ltd. at Hoang Xa Industrial Park, Thanh Thuy District was suspected of food poisoning. The workers showed symptoms of rash, headache, nausea... and were taken to Thanh Thuy District Medical Center and some medical stations in the area for examination and treatment.

Afterwards, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (under the Department of Health of Phu Tho province) issued Report No. 236/BC-ATVSTP, informing about the test results determining the cause and the patient's condition in the above poisoning case.

The results of testing suspected food poisoning samples from the victim's vomit sample and the stored food sample (braised mackerel) showed that the Histamine content in the vomit sample of a patient named TTNY was 6.22 mg/kg; the Histamine content in the stored food sample was 3806 mg/kg.

Therefore, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene determined that the cause of the food poisoning was suspected to be Histamine in the braised mackerel sample in the lunch of Sunrise Apparel Vietnam Company Limited on August 28.
