On November 5, Air & Space Forces Magazine quoted US officials as saying that Washington had deployed six B-52 bombers to the Middle East. In addition, Washington also mobilized additional F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft to support the squadron's operations.
The bombers were deployed from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, the magazine reported. Although the exact location of their deployment has not been disclosed, a transport plane from the base recently landed at Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US base in the region.
Previously, on November 3, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that Washington would dispatch a group of B-52 aircraft to the Middle East to support Israel against the risk of retaliatory attacks, after Tel Aviv attacked and destroyed a series of Tehran's air defense facilities last month.
Responding to this move, on November 4, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that this was an act that destabilized the region "and will not deter Tehran's determination to defend itself."
In another development, related to the situation of negotiations to reduce the conflict in the Gaza Strip, also on November 4, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed regret when Hamas rejected the proposal for a temporary ceasefire: "They once again refused to release even a small number of hostages in exchange for a ceasefire and relief for the people of Gaza."
According to AFP news agency, Mr. Blinken made the above comment during a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, while emphasizing the importance of ending the conflict in Gaza, ensuring the release of all hostages and increasing and maintaining the provision of humanitarian assistance."
Earlier, a Hamas official said the group had received a short-term ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar but rejected it because the proposal did not include a long-term ceasefire.
