T&G Global has announced that it has received a recent ruling from the Supreme People's Court of China, which confirmed a previous important ruling on the protection of the Group's ownership rights to the Scilate apple variety.

T&G Global Group CEO Gareth Edgecombe stressed that this is a key ruling in upholding intellectual property rights in China, while protecting the interests of breeders, farmers, consumers, customers and the entire agricultural industry.

“This important judgment by the Supreme People’s Court of China clearly demonstrates the strong commitment to protecting plant variety rights under the newly strengthened Plant Varieties Law. At the same time, I believe this judgment will contribute greatly to laying a solid foundation for future legal enforcement measures,” said Gareth Edgecombe.

“In China, Joy Wing Mau is the licensed grower and marketer of Scilate apples domestically, distributed under the ENVY® premium apple brand. With this ruling, Chinese consumers can rest assured that they are purchasing authentic, locally grown ENVY® apples. This, in turn, will help promote the development of the domestic horticulture industry through the licensing of high-value varieties, combined with modern farming systems.”

“Developing new crop varieties requires years of investment in research and development, combined with large-scale sales and marketing activities. This ruling by the Supreme People’s Court of China provides confidence for horticultural companies like T&G to invest in the Chinese market, with assurances that intellectual property rights will always be strictly protected.

The Chinese market is an important and rapidly growing market that T&G Global and our premium brands are deeply interested in. We are always working hard to introduce new crop varieties that benefit growers while serving the needs of customers and consumers in China. T&G Global is proud that these contributions not only help increase value for consumers but also contribute to the sustainable development of the local agricultural sector.

T&G Global, together with its plant variety management subsidiary Venturefruit Global, has a significant portfolio of new apple, pear and berry varieties that we are looking to license and develop in China. Following this successful ruling, we look forward to moving forward with our growing plans,” said Gareth Edgecombe.
