According to the National Cyber Security Association, a workshop on the topic of “Preventing and combating cyber fraud” will be held on July 13 under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Security. Within the framework of this workshop, the association will introduce and launch software to prevent online fraud.
The above workshop is an event to promote propaganda and dissemination of methods, tricks, consequences caused by fraudulent acts of property appropriation and related legal regulations to raise awareness of people and businesses.
At the same time, the workshop also aims to enhance coordination among agencies, organizations, businesses and people in preventing and combating fraud in cyberspace.
According to experts, recently, crimes and law violations related to fraudulent appropriation of property have occurred continuously in many localities, causing public outrage, affecting security, order, production and business activities of enterprises and people's lives.
The subjects used many sophisticated tricks, constantly changing and using spam phone numbers, bank accounts, and virtual social network accounts to avoid and erase traces after appropriating money.
Despite repeated warnings, many people are still being scammed, with thousands of billions of dong stolen.
According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control A05, Ministry of Public Security, in 2023, the total amount of money people lost to online scammers will be about 8,000-10,000 billion VND, an increase of one and a half times compared to 2022.
This figure is based on incidents reported to the police by citizens. The Ministry of Public Security also said that 1,500 cases of cyber fraud were prosecuted last year.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Head of Research, Consulting, Technology Development and International Cooperation, National Cyber Security Association said that the anti-fraud software is a product developed based on thorough research on risks to users in Vietnam, supporting the most popular operating systems today, Android and iOS.
The software is expected to be launched in July 2024 and connected to the anti-fraud database of ministries, branches, as well as member cybersecurity companies of the Association to promote combined strength.
Previously, in the 10 typical ICT events in 2023 voted by the ICT Journalists Club, the event: "Outbreak of fraud in cyberspace" ranked 5th. This shows the concern of the media and people about this problem.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Son, General Secretary of the National Cyber Security Association, said: "The workshop is a forum for agencies, organizations, and businesses to exchange, share, propose, and recommend to help supplement and perfect policies, laws, and solutions in preventing and combating fraud in cyberspace."
