Former President Donald Trump accused the US media of editing the interview with Kamala Harris to mislead public opinion.
The Hill reported on October 31 that according to a lawsuit filed in a Texas district court on the same day, Mr. Trump is demanding $10 billion in damages from CBS News, alleging election-related conduct and illegal voter interference through significant fraud and distortion of news. The lawsuit concerns an interview with US Vice President Kamala Harris on the CBS News-produced program "60 Minutes."
Trump sues CBS News for $10 billion in damages
The lawsuit alleges that the network edited Harris’ “confused” response to the Gaza conflict to cover it up, not including it in the October 7 broadcast but instead posting it in smaller segments online.
Responding to the lawsuit, a CBS News spokesperson said on October 31: "Former President Trump's repeated claims against 60 Minutes are false. The lawsuit filed by Mr. Trump is completely baseless and we will vigorously defend against it."
Donald Trump campaigned in Nevada on October 31.
According to The Hill , television stations often edit interviews before they air to ensure length, clarity and accuracy.
Earlier in October, Mr. Trump opened the door to suing CBS News, saying the network “should be stripped of its license and stop broadcasting 60 Minutes.” This is one of the media outlets that the former president has threatened to revoke its license if he is re-elected.
During election years, 60 Minutes often airs special episodes interviewing candidates. CBS News said Trump initially agreed to be interviewed this year but later backed out. In 2020, Trump walked out of the interview.
