eDigi, Apple's highest standard dealer in Vietnam, owned by Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, has stopped operating after nearly 5 years.
This information was just announced by eDigi today. IPPG, a business owned by Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, opened this Apple product distribution store in September 2018. At that time, this was considered the opening move for this luxury goods tycoon to enter the technology product business.
The 250 m2 eDigi store is located in one of the most prime locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Cong Xa Paris, District 1, next to the Ho Chi Minh City Post Office. This is one of the few agents in Vietnam that meets the highest standards of the American technology company, Apple Premium Reseller (APR) and Apple Service Provider (ASP).
Compared to Apple Authorized Reseller (AAR) - the standard that many sales units in Vietnam currently possess, APR stores must meet higher requirements from Apple in terms of area, location, layout, service quality, and staff. In addition to eDigi, the Vietnamese market currently has TopZone of Mobile World, F.Studio of FPT Shop owning stores operating according to APR standards.
On May 17, Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen told VnExpress that he decided to close the eDigi store because the technology equipment retail market was negative, demand was down, and sales were getting lower.
Along with that, according to this businessman, eDigi also cannot compete with Apple products imported from abroad with cheaper prices. "We have to sell at the price specified by the supplier and have to bear more costs and taxes, so the loss is huge because of imported goods," Mr. Hanh Nguyen explained.
Withdrawing from the technology retail sector, he said that in the coming time, he will continue to focus on three core areas where IPPG has the strongest strengths: fashion, airport services and F&B.
eDigi’s closure announcement comes just one day before Apple opens its online store in Vietnam on May 18. The online Apple Store will sell a full line of genuine domestic products, including hardware, accessories and services next week. Users can also use personalization services such as engraving their names on the surface of the device and free home delivery.
Recently, after a period of rapid growth, Apple dealers in Vietnam are facing a situation of oversupply. This has forced some big companies to accept sacrificing profits to compete on selling prices.
Previously, iPhone prices at major brands were often several million VND more expensive than smaller competitors. However, recently, this gap has disappeared, and at times, the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max at major chains was even cheaper after deducting promotional programs.
